My Monthly Anticipation | March 2023

Hello everyone,

Who doesn’t love the anticipation of new releases and things that they plan on doing? Every month there seems to be something new and exciting ready to hit the market for our consumption.

Being ready to embrace them with open arms is all we can really do.

To showcase this, I’ll be sharing my top 3 (or up to 3) for each category of things that I look forward to this month right here, right now!

BOOK RELEASES.

My thoughts: Who would have thought?! Two months in a row with no new release that particularly caught my attention. It’s nice to be able to focus on my TBR instead of making it worse! 🙂

COMIC BOOK RELEASES.

Issue #1 will be released by DC Comics on March 14th, 2023.
SUPERMAN’S ODYSSEY OF SOLITUDE! After Superman is called away on a routine Justice League mission, Lois Lane awakens to find a complete stranger standing in her living room. The Man of Steel, home much sooner than expected, reveals he has, in fact, been lost in space for 20 years. Nothing and no one seem familiar to him anymore, and the timeless bond between them has been severed…or has it? Can love conquer all? Superman’s 85th anniversary celebration continues with this all new blockbuster 10-issue, self-contained series from the creators of the Eisner-nominated Deathstroke series!

My thoughts: An intriguing premise to work with for a self-contained Elseworlds story. I’m intrigued and will keep this in my radar as the 10-issue series is completed.

Issue #1 will be released by DC Comics on March 21st, 2023.
For centuries Ra’s al Ghul has wanted to save the Earth from the worst of humankind, and for centuries he has failed. Recently his greatest obstacle has been the Dark Knight Detective, Batman. Ra’s offered Batman a chance to be a part of his new world order, but Batman refused. For years their cold war has raged, but Ra’s will have no more. Ra’s will remove Batman from the equation and save the world, re-creating it in his image and bringing the peace and prosperity all the good-hearted souls of this Earth deserve. Don’t miss this epic tragedy from the all-star creative team of Tom Taylor (Nightwing, Superman: Son of Kal-El, DCeased) and Ivan Reis (Detective Comics, Blackest Night): the last of the One Bad Day specials, and one of the most epic to date.

My thoughts: Good ol’ Ivan Reis doing the artwork on this one will surely make this good no matter what Tom Taylor does.

Issue #1 will be released by Marvel Comics on March 29th, 2023.
BROCK VS. DOOM. ‘NUFF SAID! Venom co-creator David Michelinie returns with a brand-new story set in the sinister symbiote’s past when brains—and Spider-Man—were still on the menu! This time, he’s uniting with rising star Farid Karami to weave an epic, blockbuster story that will take Venom from the streets of NYC to the kingdom of Latveria as EDDIE BROCK is challenged like never before! What (or WHO) will Venom need to overcome the fiercest foe in the Marvel U? One thing’s for certain, this monster’s bringing the mayhem!

My thoughts: Fans of the recent Lethat Protector reboot will surely be happy to know that a sequel is coming out with co-creator David Michelinie leading the project!

TV SHOW RELEASES.

Premieres on March 1st, 2023.

My thoughts: The only Star Wars shows that I want to get around to watching and remaining up to date! ❤

Premieres on March 6th, 2023.

My thoughts: Fans of Mel Brook’s movies will surely be happy to know that we’re getting a TV series sequel to one of his beloved movies! By the way, Mel Brooks is 96 years old… I don’t know how he still does it!

Premieres on March 14th, 2023.

My thoughts: I’m actually not excited at all about this. It looks like a massacre of the original characters and any story regarding the Gotham Knights… I’m just sure super curious to see if it’ll get renewed.

Premieres on March 19th, 2023.

My thoughts: With what Bob Odenkirk achieved with Better Call Saul, I’m convinced he’ll be fun to watch in this new series!

MOVIE RELEASES.

In theaters March 3rd, 2023.

My thoughts: This is probably going to have some of the most insane action scenes and I can’t wait to check it out in theaters. Tickets are already booked for this month!

In theaters March 17th, 2023.

My thoughts: The latest DCEU movie and with how surprisingly fun the first one was, I really hope they’ll get it right for this sequel! I’ll be checking this one out in theaters as well!

In theaters March 24th, 2023.

My thoughts: March sure has a lot of blockbusters, huh? Another installment in the epic action movie franchise and one that we’re surely not going to miss out checking out in theaters too!

VIDEO GAME RELEASES.

Out on March 3rd, 2023.

My thoughts: As a huge fan of Team Ninja’s work and anything Soulsborne-inspired, I’ll definitely be giving this one a shot in the near future.

Out on March 24th, 2023.

My thoughts: Fans of the Resident Evil franchise can now rejoice at the next remake coming out this month!

PERSONAL LIFE.

Here we go! Time to see if it’s possible to take hold of the reins of March and juggle the countless activities and responsibilities that comes with it. Doing taxes is probably what springs into my mind first but, once we actually sit down and take a couple of minutes to do it, it should be quickly taken care of. For many, this first week is also March break but that doesn’t really affect me much in any way with work being what it is, completely unaffected by the existence of such breaks. I do sort of look forward to the heavy snow that’s about to drop on us, mostly because I also know that we won’t be seeing much of it soon as spring kicks in full swing.

Thank you all for checking out my monthly anticipation post!

Now tell me what you’re looking forward to this month! Any new releases? Anything exciting you plan on doing?

Yours truly,

  1. Taxes. The bane of free men everywhere, in every part of history!
We just got ours finished up earlier this week. We don’t get much of a refund but that’s because I’ve made the conscious effort to have taken out as little possible. I’d rather spend (or save) my own money instead of giving the government an interest free loan.

That Superman elseworlds looks interesting. Maybe at some point I’ll actually read it, sigh.
And John Wick 4. I’m know I’m going to watch it but at this point I don’t have very high hopes at all 😦

    1. Yep, it’s insane… Almost 40% of what I should be earning goes into taxes and that makes me wonder what life would’ve been if I actually got everything and taxes worked differently hahaha

Well, well, well. Bookstooge finally picking up a Superman story once more! Now, if I can make that happen someday, I’ll consider buying a lottery ticket or something. 😛

I totally understand. They’re trying to turn it into a huge franchise with loads of spin-offs and I sort of despise that new tradition… I do hope Chapter 4 will surprise us with the original stuff.

      1. I’m all for some sort of national consumption tax instead of an income tax. The more you buy, the more you pay and the more extravagant and useless something is, the higher the consumption tax on it is.

Of course, I’m waiting for it to end before even attempting it. I’ve learned my lesson in that regards.

If the story is simple, I think it will be good. But I’m afraid with the escalation we saw in Parabellum that that just isn’t going to happen again. Long gone are the days of a simple revenge story 😦

  2. Lots to look forward to in March, Lashaan, except maybe taxes. I will do mine when I get home at the end of the month. I end up paying every year, so I’m not in any rush.

  3. Great things to look forward to, especially The Mandolorian! Excited for Shazam Forty of the Gods and John Wick 4 as well, and might give the RE4 remake a go as well if I get time. Still working my way through Dead Space and Hogwarts Legacy atm. 🙂

    1. I hope you’re still having fun with Dead Space and Hogwarts Legacy! I’m so tempted in getting a copy of the latter but am resisting since I still have other games to get through hahah I hope you enjoy The Mandalorian, Shazam, and John Wick this month! Have an awesome month of March, Paul.

  4. Wow a new series by Mel Brooks??! How exciting! Looking forward to that for sure! It’s surprising that you are excited about having even more snow, I would have thought that at this point you guys were completely over it ahahah! Have a great month Lashaan!

    1. Yep! I don’t know how much he was implicated but in a teaser video before the trailer, you see him talk about it and it’s crazy that they got around to making this. Ahhhh the thing with snow is that whenever there’s heavy snow, I just love the idea of being at home, warm, away from all the cold, and that the whole world has to do the same, unless they REALLY need to go out hahah It does the same with rain too. But whenever I’m IN the rain, I despise it… 😛

      1. Aaaah yes I know what you mean – I have this same feeling when it rains here: it creates a very cosy vibe, but here people still go out when it rains – and that’s when I hate it ahah!

  5. Ah no, another Batman comic? Are you sure it’s worth the risk? 🙂 On a serious note, I do hope it ends up being a great one with writing up to the quality of the artwork. I’m not sure how I feel about another John Wick. I enjoyed the first one and thought the second was reasonably good, but I haven’t been drawn back to it enough to watch the third yet. Mel Brooks is still making movies and shows? That’s fantastic. I’ve really enjoyed some of his movies over the years. I hope you’re able to continue finding the balance you have recently. And enjoy the snow! I’m suspecting we may have gotten all we will this year, which was just enough to see fall and not much more. But time will tell. The weather has a way of surprising me. 🙂

    1. Hhahaha I’m always ready to risk it all for my boy Batman! 😀 I understand about John Wick. I still enjoy them a lot for the action scenes but I do fear the road it’s taking, turning it into a huge franchise with multiple spin-offs and whatnot. I’d have preferred if they stuck with their core idea and had an endgame to it all… I watched a lot of his movies and am missing only a few that I never saw, which I might remedy this year. I am curious about the show but being more of a movie guy, I’m in no rush to get around to the show hahah Oh snap, yep, it’s true. Mother Nature sure loves surprises. We’re currently, at this very instant, getting 20-25 cm of snow but I doubt we’ll get as much throughout the rest of the month. But, like you said, who knows. 😀

  6. “Looking forward to heavy snow” is a phrase I just can’t get behind, now that I’ve experienced my first ever snowy winter and I’m stuck in my house for who knows how long. But I hope you enjoy it, ha ha. Have a fantastic month, Lashaan, I can tell there’s lots to keep you busy😁

  7. I made it a point this year to get right on the tax thing and not procrastinate, and I felt so much better when I got them done. The cover for the Superman Lost looks great. Watched the first episode of the new season for The Mandalorian and am looking forward to enjoying it as much as the first two seasons. With The CW changing hands, I have a feeling Gotham Knights is only getting aired as filler on the schedule at this point. I also don’ t think it looks very interesting, although I’m a big Misha Collins fan from his time on Supernatural. I suspect Shazam! will be way more serious than the first go-round, especially if the character is being called upon to play a prominent role in the new DCU. John Wick 4 – can’t wait. Love the franchise. Happy March, Lashaan!

    1. I totally relate to that feeling of satisfaction, Bruce! I do love that cover for the first issue but I look forward to seeing what the collected edition will have too. I’m glad that you enjoyed that first episode of The Mandalorian, Bruce. Have you tried Andor? I heard a lot of people adore it but never got around to trying it myself. I agree about Gotham Knights. I feel like they also tried to create more hype around those heroes, especially with the recent video game Gotham Knights, which sort of flopped anyway. I do hope they won’t kill off Shazam’s character through a poor story. Hope you enjoy JW4, Bruce! I imagine you’ll also be checking it out with your wife in theaters. Have an awesome month of March too! 😀

      1. Lashaan, I’m on the Andor “fence.” I have been determined from the start to just stick with The Mandalorian as far as Star Wars series. Did watch the three episodes at the end of Boba Fett’s season but that was just to “catch up” to the Mandalorian appearing elsewhere. However…Andor has gotten an awful lot of positive feedback so it is admittedly tempting.

  8. Everyone tried doing their taxes here on the 1st, which broke not only the site but also Digid (which you need to login anywhere official – government stuff, insurances, hospitals, universities…). It was a mess…

I’ll be keeping an eye out for reviews of both those games (tho I’m sure Dave will want to play Resident Evil at some point). I just started Assassins Creed Odyssey though, which is gonna take me a While to get through…

    1. Wow that sure does sound like a catastrophe. We’re currently going through something similar with the main wine seller franchise that launched an online ordering system that crashed and now people are doing 4+ hour line-ups to get their stuff hahaha

Sweet! I plan on someday replaying through the Assassin’s Creed games too. The last few games looked fun, especially Valhalla. Hope you enjoy Odyssey! 😀

  9. The Superman’s Odyssey of Solitude cover is very nice. 😍

I don’t have cable or any streaming services. I think I cancelled our cable about nine years ago. I still need to borrow DVDs from the library to finish watching The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones. 😅

Resident Evil is a favorite of mine, but my son has his computer gaming set up in his room now and doesn’t play out in the living room where I can watch anymore. I can’t play myself because it makes me too nervous, ha ha. He told me to watch streamers on Twitch, but it’s not the same. 😌

Here’s to a great month of March! 👏👏👏

    1. Tell me about it! 😀

There are very few streaming services that are really worth the price anyway hahaha

Ahhh yes, it is indeed different but it is still a great alternative! You could also look up YouTube videos of some of the games. Some people do “movie-fied” versions of the games (they’re usually 2-3 hours long) that could work as an alternative too.

Hope you have a fantastic month of March as well! 😀

  10. I’m really looking forward to seeing that new John Wick too. I never expected to get caught up in the franchise since I’d put off watching the shows for a long time, but I was quickly hooked.
