My Monthly Anticipation | November 2022

Hello everyone,

Who doesn’t love the anticipation of new releases and things that they plan on doing? Every month there seems to be something new and exciting ready to hit the market for our consumption.

Being ready to embrace them with open arms is all we can really do.

To showcase this, I’ll be sharing my top 3 (or up to 3) for each category of things that I look forward to this month right here, right now!

BOOK RELEASES.

Out on November 1st, 2022 by Orbit.
Every great city has a soul. A human avatar that embodies their city’s heart and wields its magic. New York? She’s got six.
But all is not well in the city that never sleeps. Though Brooklyn, Manny, Bronca, Venezia, Padmini, and Neek have temporarily managed to stop the Woman in White from invading–and destroying the entire universe in the process–the mysterious capital “E” Enemy has more subtle powers at her disposal. A new candidate for mayor wielding the populist rhetoric of gentrification, xenophobia, and “law and order” may have what it takes to change the very nature of New York itself and take it down from the inside. In order to defeat him, and the Enemy who holds his purse strings, the avatars will have to join together with the other Great Cities of the world in order to bring her down for good and protect their world from complete destruction.

My thoughts: I actually haven’t read a single book by N.K. Jemisin but I know a lot of her books resonate with fantasy readers. I’ll have to try one out sooner rather than later!

Out on November 15th, 2022 by Tor Books.
For years, frontier lawman turned big-city senator Waxillium Ladrian has hunted the shadowy organization the Set—with his late uncle and his sister among their leaders—since they started kidnapping people with the power of Allomancy in their bloodlines. When Detective Marasi Colms and her partner Wayne find stockpiled weapons bound for the Outer City of Bilming, this opens a new lead. Conflict between Elendel and the Outer Cities only favors the Set, and their tendrils now reach to the Elendel Senate—whose corruption Wax and Steris have sought to expose—and Bilming is even more entangled.
After Wax discovers a new type of explosive that can unleash unprecedented destruction and realizes that the Set must already have it, an immortal kandra serving Scadrial’s god reveals that Harmony’s power is blocked in Bilming. That means the city has fallen under the influence of another god: Trell, worshipped by the Set. And Trell isn’t the only factor at play from the larger Cosmere—Marasi is recruited by offworlders with strange abilities who claim their goal is to protect Scadrial…at any cost.
Harmony’s vision of future possibilities comes to an abrupt halt tomorrow night, with only blackness after that. It’s a race against time, and Wax must choose whether to set aside his rocky relationship with God and once again become the Sword that Harmony has groomed him to be. If no one steps forward to be the hero Scadrial needs, the planet and its millions of people will come to a sudden and calamitous ruin.

My thoughts: A new chapter into the Mistborn world is just around the corner and I can only imagine how excited fans are!

Out on November 24th, 2022 by Tor.
Earth is failing. In a desperate bid to escape, the spaceship Enkidu and its captain, Heorest Holt, carry its precious human cargo to a potential new Eden. Generations later, this fragile colony has managed to survive, eking out a hardy existence. Yet life is tough, and much technological knowledge has been lost.
Then Liff, Holt’s granddaughter, hears whispers that the strangers in town aren’t from neighbouring farmland. That they possess unparalleled technology – and that they’ve arrived from another world. But not all questions are so easily answered, and their price may be the colony itself.

My thoughts: I’ve heard people say the first book works wonderfully as a stand-alone novel but here we are with a third one in the series.

COMIC BOOK RELEASES.

Issue #1 will be released by Marvel Comics on November 9th, 2022.
“WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THE FANTASTIC FOUR?” It’s the start of a new era for the Fantastic Four…and they’re already in a ton of trouble. Something has gone terribly wrong in New York, and the Thing and Alicia are traveling across America to escape it! But when they stop in a small town for the night and wake up the morning before they arrived, they find themselves caught in a time loop that’s been going on since before they were born… That’s been going on since before they were born… That’s been going on since before they were born…

My thoughts: I won’t lie that it was Alex Ross’s cover art that caught my attention for this new issue but, hey, it might be a fun ride nonetheless!

Issue #1 will be released by DC Comics on November 15th, 2022.
Going back to the Dark Knight’s early days in Gotham City: Batman and Robin, Dick Grayson, face down the coldest winter Gotham City has ever seen. A winter so cold that Mr. Freeze, Victor Fries, no longer needs his containment suit to survive; he is in an element where he can thrive. Robin empathizes with Mr. Freeze, all Freeze wants to do is save his wife, Nora—but Batman warns Robin not to give his empathy to Victor Fries. He’s a man who decided his own fate a long time ago and he deserves none of our warmth. And this winter… he will show his true wickedness and power.

My thoughts: Another installment in the One Bad Day series and this time it’s focused on Mr. Freeze!

Issue #1 will be released by Marvel Comics on November 16th, 2022.
IT’S NOT EASY BEING…GOLD? Norman Osborn’s sins may have been cleansed, but his memories weren’t and he’s done plenty of horrific things to remember. Norman’s worked hard to avoid all things “Goblin” and to stay on the straight and narrow. Consequences in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN pushed him to try super-heroing, and he liked it. But when the media dub him the Gold Goblin, he has to start wondering—can he ever get away from the Goblin inside?

My thoughts: So, here we got Green Goblin being the good guy. How long can it last? 🙂

TV SHOW RELEASES.

Season 1 premieres on November 1st, 2022 on Netflix.

My thoughts: As a fan of Dark, this is definitely on my radar and I can’t wait to see how twisted it’s going to be.

Season 4 premieres on November 3rd, 2022 on HBO MAX.

My thoughts: With all the cancelations happening over at Warner Bros, I’m surprised that Titans is still alive so far. Maybe this latest season will convince me to pick up where I left things (season 3).

Season 1 premieres on November 23rd, 2022 on Netflix.

My thoughts: As a huge fan of the Asdams Family during my childhood, I really am curious about this series under Tim Burton’s direction!

My thoughts: I’m all for Daniel Craig-centered mystery tales! I wonder if this one can top the first one, which, by the way, could’ve totally been left alone!

VIDEO GAME RELEASES.

My thoughts: I’m dropping absolutely everything for this. One of my all-time most anticipated games of my life and it’s just a couple of days away!!!!

My thoughts: The next Pokémon game is coming out this month and you know this will keep so many people busy!

Out on November 22nd, 2022.

My thoughts: I honestly didn’t expect this title to look so good. I’m keeping it on my radar and hopefully, critics will convince me that it’s worth picking up.

PERSONAL LIFE.

I’m hoping to turn November into a back-to-my-routine kind of month, especially with how adventurous October turned out to be and how chaotic December is bound to be. It’s crazy that 2023 is already so close to us and it makes me realize, once again, how every year just speeds by you every time. I haven’t even started to think about how 2022 turned out to be but as I’m writing this, I realize that there’s so much that has been achieved but rarely do we take the time throughout the year to realize it. I look forward to the surprises that November has to offer as well as the program that I’ve got myself set for it!

Thank you all for checking out my monthly anticipation post!

Now tell me what you’re looking forward to this month! Any new releases? Anything exciting you plan on doing?

Yours truly,

  1. The books by Tchaikovsky need to stop NOW. The first was ok, the second not really and I won’t be touching this third one with a 10ft pole.

I also wonder how long the FF series will last, as it was cancelled for a long time. Are any of the old time fans even going to bother this time around?

  2. The core theme of Children of Memory appeals to me as all colonizations stories do, but I’m going to approach this one with some caution, since the second book in the series did not work as well as Children of Time. Hopefully, the third time will be the charm… 😉
As for 1899, your post is the first instance I’ve been aware of this series, and it looks intriguing, so thanks for sharing!

  3. I’m interested in how Jemisin turns out, she was recently on Ezra Klein’s podcast and she’s definitely very smart, and the idea behind her new book is quite cool!

  4. Lots of interesting comics on the way, isn’t there? For someone who is just starting to dabble in comic reads, I will be very interested to hear your thoughts, Lashaan. I am very much looking forward to Wakanda Forever, Wednesday, and Glass Onion as well. Enjoy your November!

  5. I have Jemisin’s first trilogy that I hope to read one day. I think I’m caught up on the Mistborn books so I’m ready for The Lost Metal. And one of these days I hope to start that Tchaikovsky series. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the novellas of his I’ve read. As for the movies, I hope Glass Onion does a good job because I thought Knives Out was fantastic. Seems difficult to match, but I’ll give it a try to find out how they did. I hope life gives you something great this month. I’m not too excited by how work has been going lately but at least I know there’s photography and great books and movies to enjoy in the off hours. 🙂

    1. I have the first of her trilogy and will hopefully dig into it someday too. So cool to hear that you’re up to date with the Mistborn books! I’ve only read the first books and still need to push on with the rest. Same for Tchaikovsky. I’ve always heard amazing things about his stuff but less so for his more recent stuff. I really enjoyed Knives Out too. It was such a welcome surprise and I hope the sequel will continue with the tone established by the first one. Aw snap, I hope November will be a good month for you and that work won’t ruin it in any way whatsoever, my friend. Take care!

  6. Happy November, Lashaan! I’m also really curious to check out the Wednesday Addams series, especially for Tim Burton’s direction, as I haven’t really seen the Addams Family (maybe when I was a kid)? Here’s to a peaceful November before a hectic December!

  7. God of War Ragnorok looks so good. I’ve been too busy lately with a bathroom renovation to get into any new games (that needs to be finished before I become an uncle, with my brother’s baby due at the end of the month), but I plan on starting it by the end of the year.

  8. I can’t believe that we are almost done with 2022!!
But aside for my screwed sense of time, I need to start Tchaikovsky series because it is on my TBR and I keep procrastinating. And between all the tv shows, the one I am most intrigued about is the Tim Burton’s one!
