Hello everyone,
Who doesn’t love the anticipation of new releases and things that they plan on doing? Every month there seems to be something new and exciting ready to hit the market for our consumption.
Being ready to embrace them with open arms is all we can really do.
To showcase this, I’ll be sharing my top 3 (or up to 3) for each category of things that I look forward to this month right here, right now!
BOOK RELEASES.
Upon completing my research, October seems to be a drought month for book releases that interest me. And, honestly, I’m glad. There’s already too much I still need to read anyway, haha! 😀
COMIC BOOK RELEASES.

There once was a shining city on the water, a home for families, hope, and prosperity. It was Gotham and it was glorious. The story of its fall from grace, the legend that would birth the Bat, has remained untold for 80 years. That’s about to change. Superstar creators Tom King and Phil Hester team up for the first time to tell the definitive origin of Gotham City: how it became the cesspool of violence and corruption it is today, and how it harbored and then unleashed the sin that led to the rise of the Dark Knight. Two generations before Batman, private investigator Slam Bradley gets tangled in the “kidnapping of the century” as the infant Wayne heir disappears in the night…and so begins a brutal, hard-boiled, epic tale of a man living on the edge and a city about to burn.
My thoughts: I’m always down to try the limited series written by Tom King and a Year One story for Gotham City? Count me in.

Shot in 1936, Night of the Ghoul by writer/director T.F. Merritt was meant to sit beside Frankenstein and Dracula as an instant classic . . . But the legendary film never made it to the silver screen. Just before editing was finished, a mysterious studio fire destroyed the footage and killed the cast and crew celebrating at the wrap party. Forest Inman is a horror film obsessive who digitizes old films for the famed Aurora movie studio. When Forest stumbles across a seemingly forgotten canister of footage, he just might have discovered the remnants of the lost classic Night of the Ghoul. This discovery sends Forest on a dark odyssey, where he’s warned by a mysterious old man that the film’s ghoul is far more than a work of fiction: it’s a very real monster who plans to kill him.
My thoughts: It’s been a while since I haven’t read or seen writer Scott Snyder around and this sounds like a fun one to check out!

A revolutionary dark take on Spider-Man begins here! What is reality and what is dream? What is science and what is magic? At the intersection of all of this stands the Deadly Neighborhood Spider-Man. Peter Parker goes to Los Angeles and what he finds there are definitely not angels. The demons waiting for Peter are going to test him like never before. One demon in particular, a very famous one for Marvel and X fans in particular, might just eat Spider-Man alive.
My thoughts: So, this sure does sound dark but will it be any good? I’d be down to find that out as each issue comes out!

As depicted in Matt Reeves’s hit movie The Batman, the Riddler wasn’t simply an amusing eccentric with an affinity for wordplay and baffling clues, but as terrifying a villain as any in the annals of the Dark Knight. Here you can see Edward Nashton evolve into the menace known as the Riddler. How did an unknown forensic accountant uncover the dark secrets of Gotham’s underworld and come so close to bringing down the entire city? This six-issue miniseries is an immediate prequel to The Batman—the detailed, disturbing, and at times shocking story of a man with nothing to lose.
My thoughts: Since there are no book releases that interest me, I’ll add this fourth comic that I’ve been waiting for for a while! Actor Paul Dano writes a Riddler Year One story and I couldn’t be more curious to see how this works out in the end!
TV SHOW RELEASES.
My thoughts: Not a TV series per se but an audio series quite original worth trying out!
My thoughts: It’s time for the mind of Guillermo del Toro to be set free in this series and it looks promising! 🙂
MOVIE RELEASES.
My thoughts: I’m not sure how they’ll balance out screen time for all these actors/actresses but hopefully they get it right!
My thoughts: Surely going to be a depressing movie based on a true story.
My thoughts: I really hope Dwayne Johnson’s portrayal of Black Adam will work for the best… I really want this to set the tone for future DCEU movies as upper management tries to figure out a plan for these DC movies.
VIDEO GAME RELEASES.
My thoughts: Having played the first game and enjoyed it (check out my review here), I do hope this sequel will push the game’s potential even further and deliver a solid story too!
My thoughts: This is already pre-ordered and probably my most highly anticipated release this month and I really hope it won’t flop despite all the criticism it’s been getting since showcasing gameplay elements in the past months!
My thoughts: As per tradition with my high school friends, we’re about to dive into the next Call of Duty installment and I really hope that they’ll get it right. Storytelling has been less and less their forte and the multiplayer elements have struggled in more of their games than not.
PERSONAL LIFE.
October is going to be super wild for me. I’ve already convinced myself that things will be super unpredictable but I’m quite excited to see how it all goes in the end. To kick things off, we’ll have family (girlfriend’s side) over at our place for most of the month of October and that means it’s going to be time to become a tourist in my own city/province again, which is always so much fun!
Towards the 20th, my girlfriend, her sister, her sister’s boyfriend, and I will be off to Los Angeles (mainly because my girlfriend has a huge congress to attend) and that means it’s time to revisit it for me! I already know that there are a gazillion things to do out there and I look forward to it all!
Oh, and, for our random country of the month, we got Haïti this time and that should be quite fun, considering that the diaspora of the people led to a huge influx of that community in my city back in the day, meaning there’s plenty of food and culture to explore! So, yes, October is booked to the max! 😀
Thank you all for checking out my monthly anticipation post!
Now tell me what you’re looking forward to this month! Any new releases? Anything exciting you plan on doing?
Yours truly,

Wow, sounds like a fun month! I hadn’t heard of Till but now I’d love to see it. But it does sound very sad😥 I hope October is fantastic for you😁

I do hope Till will perform well in theaters! Hope October is an awesome month for you too! 😀

You have my deepest sympathies that you have to go to LA. Try not to get mugged or human trafficked. And watch out for mobs and dirty needles. Other than that, have a dandy time 😉

This made me laugh so much. Considering that my field of study is criminology, there’s no surprise that I’m quite aware of L.A.’s criminality and I actually look forward to walking through Skid Row. 😉 I can’t wait to see if I’ll survive it all or not. 😛

Sounds like a busy month ahead for you! I have never been to LA, I wonder what you will make of it? October will also be busy for me, although I hope there will be more time for reading and blogging (in Sep I managed to read 1 book and write 0 posts – not very impressive!)

I’ve been to L.A. once but I do look forward to revisiting it again, especially now that I’ll have more days there than last time. It did seem like you’ve been keeping yourself busy lately, Star. I hope you’ve been doing good though!

Wow, it looks like you have jam packed October Lashaan. I am looking forward to Till as well. I always want to learn about history, civil rights and the mistakes made in the past so we can learn from them. I am a huge Dwayne Johnson fan, so I will watch that as well. Enjoy your trip to LA. I have never been, cut it is on my bucket list. Don’t forget to breathe this month 😊

Yep, October is going to wild and I can’t wait to see what it has in store for me. I too love learning more and more about the whole Civil Rights movement and all those important people from that period. I hope you have a fantastic month of October, Carla!

The company that made A Plague’s Tale has been around for decades, but mostly in support of other studios. That was actually the first game of their own that they developed, and there’s a lot to like about it. We already know the sequel will expand on the gameplay. While I probably won’t play it until sometime next year (recently started playing Cyberpunk 2077, which is much improved with some of the recent updates), I look forward to seeing where the story goes.

Yep, I look forward to A Plague’s Tale sequel and I hope it’ll allow the company to grow faster and bigger. I actually got Cyberpunk 2077 on PS4 on release and ended up returning it because of all the mess they went through. I’m thinking of giving the game a shot on PC now that they’ve patched everything up. I am excited that the company is going to be working on 3 more Witcher games and a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077. Unfortunately, I’m sure none of those games will be released within the next 3-4 years though.

I’d rather them take their time to make sure it’s right then to have another Cyberpunk mess though. That said, if they base its sequel on the same game engine after they fix it up further, that probably won’t be as much of an issue.

The horror series from Del Toro looks interesting – and right on time for the Halloween vibes! 🙂
Enjoy your trip to LA and of course share your Haitian experiences with us: inquiring minds (and stomachs…) want to know!!!!

Absolutely! I love that the timing is perfect. It’ll make things easier for so many of us to jump into it. 😀 And yes, I’ll definitely share my experience at the end of the month! 😀

I’m sure you’ll be exhausted by the end of October with people staying at your place for most of the month ahah, but it seems like you’ll have a lot of fun anyways! Are you planning on reading a Haitian book this month?
LikeLiked by 1 person
Hahaha I doubt the exhaustion will be visible but I know I’m excited about all the things we’re surely going to be doing though! 😀 And yes, I do plan on reading one book by a Haitian-Canadian (Montreal) author who I’ve heard about my whole life but never read anything by him (until now!). His name is Dany Laferrière and I’m going to be reading his most controversial book hahah 😀

Sounds like you’ve got quite the October to look forward to. I hope it goes spectacularly well and can’t wait to hear a bit about it. It’s been a while since I’ve watched anything by Guillermo del Toro, but I’m enough of a fan to look forward to at least trying anything he does. And Night of the Ghoul has the look of some older war or horror comics from my youth. I’d be curious to learn more about it. Have a great October, Lashaan!

Thanks, Todd! Same as you, I’m so curious about Guillermo del Toro’s mind that I’d try anything the guy wants to share with us. I hope you have an awesome month of October, Todd! 😀

A Haitian friend had recommended a pigeon pie to me a long time ago. Unfortunately, I never had the chance to try it. Let me know if you do.

I looked up the pigeon pie dish and wow, it sounds intriguing. Not sure I can find pigeon meat out here though… We will be eating out at a Haitian restaurant soon and I look forward to that! 😀
