My Monthly Anticipation | July 2022

Hello everyone,

Who doesn’t love the anticipation of new releases and things that they plan on doing? Every month there seems to be something new and exciting ready to hit the market for our consumption.

Being ready to embrace them with open arms is all we can really do.

To showcase this, I’ll be sharing my top 3 for each category of things that I look forward to this month right here, right now!

BOOK RELEASES.

The IT Girl by Ruth Ware.
Release Date: July 12th, 2022.
April Coutts-Cliveden was the first person Hannah Jones met at Oxford.

Vivacious, bright, occasionally vicious, and the ultimate It girl, she quickly pulled Hannah into her dazzling orbit. Together, they developed a group of devoted and inseparable friends—Will, Hugh, Ryan, and Emily—during their first term. By the end of the second, April was dead.

Now, a decade later, Hannah and Will are expecting their first child, and the man convicted of killing April, former Oxford porter John Neville, has died in prison. Relieved to have finally put the past behind her, Hannah’s world is rocked when a young journalist comes knocking and presents new evidence that Neville may have been innocent. As Hannah reconnects with old friends and delves deeper into the mystery of April’s death, she realizes that the friends she thought she knew all have something to hide…including a murder.

I missed out on her last book but read pretty much everything else by her and am sure that this latest story will be a lot of fun! Not sure when I’ll ever get around to it though.

COMIC BOOK RELEASES.

Issue #1 will be released by Image Comics on July 6th, 2022.
Edison Crane is the world’s smartest man, but what happens when he’s targeted by an entire CLUB of geniuses who also fly too close to the sun? Meet THE ICARUS SOCIETY.
THE MAGIC ORDER and KING OF SPIES writer MARK MILLAR launches a brand-new five-issue series starring EDISON CRANE, his favorite creation-and this time he’s brought along amazing Star Wars artist MATTEO BUFFAGNI to blow you all away.

A new story by Mark Millar! Will it be worth checking out? To be determined…

Issue #1 will be released by Marvel on July 13th, 2022.
AFTER THE REIGN COMES THE DAWN! In the wake of Wilson Fisk’s violent and visceral last act, it’s a new era for New York and the Man Without Fear! With a groundbreaking creative team returning to usher in an all-new chapter, Matt Murdock has no choice but to leave behind everything he’s ever known, and ELEKTRA is the last vestige of his former life. Everything Matt Murdock thought it meant to be DAREDEVIL is about to change, including the challenges he will have to face in the cowl!

Writer Chip Zdarsky is on fire lately and is getting a lot of attention and I definitely plan on checking out more of his content soon!

Issue #1 will be released by DC Comics on July 26th, 2022.
At the end of World War II, Earth was invaded by giant mechanized Parademons from a planet called APOKOLIPS. The planet’s protectors, the Justice Society of America, were devastated and with them, the age of Super Heroes came to an end, and the era of the Mech began.
In the ensuing years, the world has stockpiled colossal battle suits piloted by elite warriors, waiting for the day Apokolips returns. But when Kal-El, the last son of a dying world, crash lands in Metropolis with his own warsuit, he’ll face down two of earth’s greatest Mech fighters, The Flash and Batman.
The dawn of a brave new mechanized DCU is here from the rising star creative team of Kenny Porter (Flash: The Fastest Man Alive, Fearless) and Baldemar Rivas (Robins, Batman: Urban Legends).

This sounds fun. With that recent story where our favourite superheroes were dinosaurs putting things into perspective, this new story with mechazords sounds just as hilarious. No guarantee that these stories are any good though.

TV SHOW RELEASES.

Premieres on July 1st, 2022.

I’m waiting for my girlfriend to catch up on season 3 to finally check out this fourth season but it does sound like the final two movie-length episodes of this season (released as “volume 2”) are epic!

Premieres on July 11th, 2022.

My most anticipated show of the year is coming to an end with this second part. The first part was fantastic, as usual, ending on an excellent cliffhanger. I’m a bit sad that it will all come to an end this summer but I’m convinced it’ll be a most excellent ending.

Premieres on July 28th, 2022.

If you’re looking for some animated entertainment, then you can definitely queue up the third season of Harley Quinn coming out later this month!

MOVIE RELEASES.

Out on July 8th, 2022.

I’m not a huge fan of the MCU Thor but I am prepared for the quirkiness of this fourth movie and what it’ll offer for the next phase of this live-action universe.

Out on July 22nd, 2022.

I’ve seen all of Jordan Peele’s movies so far and was captivated by the premise of each of these movies. NOPE looks and sounds as good as the previous movies and I am curious to see what it has to offer.

Out on July 29th, 2022.

While I was skeptical at first regarding what this movie might have to offer, with the first trailer, I was quite convinced that it might not be so bad.

VIDEO GAME RELEASES.

The fourth month in a row without any major video game releases. Then again, I wouldn’t have much time for anything new right now. But… There is this cute-concept game coming out on July 19th, 2022! I’d only get it on discount and if it’s received positively by fellow critics/gamers.

PERSONAL LIFE.

The first half of July will be the final half of my vacation. I still have a couple more days in the south of France before we (me, my girlfriend, her twin sister, and her twin sister’s boyfriend) head to Italy. I do look forward to discovering a country rich in history, scorching heat, and also FOOD. I expect to be mostly eating all the time and I’m definitely not going to complain considering how much I love Italian food.

I also look forward to the second half of July, to return home, and get back to my own routine but I know, once home, that I’ll be compelled to dream about more vacation time in more places around the world that I haven’t visited yet. It’s going to be tough to not get lost in all the daydreaming that awaits but I’m sure I’ll find ways to be happy to be doing things that I love too. Deep down, I’m also going to be so happy to be home, not having to worry about passports and infernal conditions in airports and whatnot. 😛

Thank you all for checking out my monthly anticipation post!

Now tell me what you’re looking forward to this month! Any new releases? Anything exciting you plan on doing?

Yours truly,

  1. Love these posts Lashaan! I’m on the blog tour for It Girl in August and can’t wait to read it! I wasn’t keen on the Thor films either, but really enjoyed the seeing Ragnarök the second time on Disney+, I enjoyed it a lot more as I was better prepared for Jeff Goldblum’s weirdness! 😂 I’m looking forward to Love and Thunder when it’s available to stream. I don’t normally go to the cinema but I really want to see Elvis on the big screen, so hopefully going this week whilst my husband has another week’s holiday. Hope you enjoy the rest of your vacation and that Italy lives up to your expectations! 🍝 🇮🇹

    1. I hope you had or will have a blast with IT Girl! You might end up convincing me into picking it up too. I hope you enjoy Thor 4 when it comes out on Disney+. I’ll be checking out myself tomorrow! 😀 And yes, Elvis might actually be a fantastic movie to check out in the theaters. Hope you enjoy it, Nicki! I just got back home from my vacation and can confirm that Italy exceeded my expectations! 😀

  2. While I loved Ragnarok, I hated the first 2 Thor movies and I’m done with the MCU. I saw there was going to be a 4th Thor movie and my Careometer didn’t even budge 😉 I hope it’s not a waste of your time but much like your videogames, it just doesn’t have any meaning for me anymore.

So pets and mecha are getting the ol’ Superhero treatment too eh? Man, This bubble has gone on WAAAAAY longer than I thought possible.

Eat some of that food for me ok? 😀

    1. I’m going to check it out tomorrow but I’ve set my expectations very low, not being a massive fan of the MCU take of Thor’s character. As for convincing you into checking out any of the new MCU movies, it definitely won’t be me who’ll take on such a challenge. I haven’t been impressed at all by any of the recent releases since Endgame…

I definitely ate A LOT of fantastic stuff in Italy. Everything is so much cheaper and better (ingredients-wise) there. I’ll share my experience with it all soon! Hope you’ve been doing well these past days!

  3. I just binged the last two episodes of Stranger Things yesterday and yes, the word is epic! And im hoping to check out Nope, although it’s hard to tell what it’s about, lol. Have a good month, Lashaan😁

  4. I read my first Ruth Ware book two years ago and I’ve been looking forward to trying more. I’ve purchased a couple, but I’d be very open to trying this one first if I happened to win it in a giveaway. 🙂 Otherwise, like you, I’m not sure when I’d get to it. I’m curious about Prodigy. The fact it’s only five issues helps. With all that great food you’ll be eating it sounds like visits to the gym might be in your future when you return home? 🙂

    1. Ohhhh, that’s pretty cool! Is it me or have you been winning a bunch of those Goodreads giveaways in the past year? I hope this latest novel will turn out to be a good one for you! I too love the idea of it being a limited series and not a multi-volume one. More odds that I actually give it a try sooner rather than later too. And yes. You’re 100% correct. I’ve got that whole gym thing planned out this week now that I’m back home again. 😛

      1. I didn’t actually win The IT Girl, though I’d still like to read it one day. The giveaways seem to be a numbers game. I find with Goodreads I win, on average, between 1 to 2% of those I enter. This year so far I’ve won 4 out of 336 entered and in 2021 it was 9 out of 518 (I’m a nerd with a giveaway spreadsheet). So if I find enough that look interesting I can keep myself busy reading new books while also having some time to delve into my back catalog. I hope you’re enjoying your time back home, though I’m sure you also miss Europe. 🙂

  5. Is this a couch potato on the gif? 😉
Also, I’m saying NOPE to Thor!! 😛 Looking forward to Stranger Things!
Seriously, though, have a great time in Italy, Lashaan! Enjoy your vacation to the last minute and return with loads of new energy 😀 And keep your fingers crossed for my trip, please – we’ve had flights cancelled several times already 😉

    1. No, no, more like a potato I was going to eat throughout my vacation! 😛
Haahah definitely not me who’s going to convince you to check out Thor 4 though. I dislike the general direction of Waititi’s Thor and am going to watch it tomorrow with very, very low expectations.
Thanks, Ola! I definitely made the most of the journey and am now back home, trying to get used to it all again hahah I do hope you got around to getting an uncancelled flight to Poland or at least a flight to your hometown in the coming days/weeks!

  6. I also have to catch up on Stranger Things because apparently this last season is really great and I want to check it out! I’m sure we’ll have a great time in Italy and I also plan on eating all the time ahah 😛 Hopefully your flight back will be easier!

  7. I’m not entirely sure whether I’m looking forward to Thor: Love and Thunder or not either. On the one hand, Gorr is a fantastic villain in the comics and a serious threat. On the other hand, with this one being the shortest MCU movie we’ve had in a while, I’m not convinced we’ll have enough time for Thor and Jane to reconnect, showcase Gorr in a way that does him justice, include the Guardians of the Galaxy, and also show us Thor’s road to recovery, all in one movie. I’m worried that I’ll have some of the same complaints I had with Shang-Chi and Eternals, in that they both tried to do way too much.

    1. I’m with you. I feel like they’re going to tackle tooooo many ideas at the same time, especially in very LITTLE time. I’m going to check it out tomorrow but I’m keeping my expectations very low. Not being a huge fan of Waititi’s Thor in general, I just hope this latest movie opens up things for the MCU for the better…

  8. I hope you’ll enjoy Italy Lashaan! And I am sceptical about Thor this time as I have just seen the trailer yesterday 😉

  9. Stranger Things: The final 2 epis for this season are epic. I have a few complaints, but overall I enjoyed myself and can’t wait to see what’s gonna happen next.
Hope the rest of your vacation is going well and is super relaxing.

  10. Thor will be fun to watch. I always liked the comic part of Marvel movies. Looks like you’re having great time. I always hate getting back to routine once back from vacation and at the same time I want it back as soon as possible. I hope you have fantastic July.
