My Monthly Anticipation | June 2022

Hello everyone,

Who doesn’t love the anticipation of new releases and things that they plan on doing? Every month there seems to be something new and exciting ready to hit the market for our consumption.

Being ready to embrace them with open arms is all we can really do.

To showcase this, I’ll be sharing my top 3 for each category of things that I look forward to this month right here, right now!

BOOK RELEASES.

Locklands by Robert Jackson Bennett.
Release Date: June 28th, 2022.
Sancia, Clef, and Berenice have gone up against plenty of long odds in the past. But the war they’re fighting now is one even they can’t win.
This time, they’re not facing robber-baron elites, or even an immortal hierophant, but an entity whose intelligence is spread over half the globe—a ghost in the machine that uses the magic of scriving to possess and control not just objects, but human minds.
To fight it, they’ve used scriving technology to transform themselves and their allies into an army—a society—that’s like nothing humanity has seen before. With its strength at their backs, they’ve freed a handful of their enemy’s hosts from servitude, even brought down some of its fearsome, reality-altering dreadnaughts. Yet despite their efforts, their enemy marches on—implacable. Unstoppable.
Now, as their opponent closes in on its true prize—an ancient doorway, long buried, that leads to the chambers at the center of creation itself—Sancia and her friends glimpse a chance at reaching it first, and with it, a last desperate opportunity to stop this unbeatable foe. But to do so, they’ll have to unlock the centuries-old mystery of scriving’s origins, embark on a desperate mission into the heart of their enemy’s power, and pull off the most daring heist they’ve ever attempted.
And as if that weren’t enough, their adversary might just have a spy in their ranks—and a last trick up its sleeve.

I haven’t started this trilogy but it’s nice to know that it’s about to come to an end with this third and final book! I look forward to the day I finally dive into this world!

COMIC BOOK RELEASES.

Issue #1 will be released by Image Comics on June 1st, 2022.
Thom is moving cross-country with his family and dragging the past along with them. His son, Jamie, is seeing monsters in the bedroom closet and will not let them go. A tale of existential familial horror by JAMES TYNION IV (THE DEPARTMENT OF TRUTH, RAZORBLADES) and GAVIN FULLERTON (BOG BODIES, Bags).

Writer James Tynion IV has been on a role with his horror stories and these non-superhero stories sound so promising!

Issue #1 of 7 of Dark Crisis will be released by DC Comics on June 7th, 2022.
Crisis on Infinite Earths. Infinite Crisis. Final Crisis. And now…Dark Crisis! The epic event years in the making is finally here! Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and the rest of the Justice League are dead. The remaining heroes are left to protect the world from an onslaught of violent attacks by DC’s greatest villains! Can the legacy heroes step out of the shadows of the classic heroes to form a new Justice League? And will that be enough to stop a darkness greater than anything they’ve ever faced from destroying everything? Don’t miss out on the first issue of the blockbuster event of the summer!

It’s time for the next biggest crisis in the DC Universe and it’s about to get dark! My expectations are low for these nowadays but I hope they got some good ideas under their sleeves.

Issue #1 of 12 will be released by DC Comics on June 21st, 2022.
There is no forgiveness for Black Adam. This is the reality Teth-Adam, immortal man of indomitable will, must face when he discovers he has been infected with an incurable plague destroying his immortality. Haunted by the specter of centuries of dark deeds, Black Adam transfers his powers to a worthy successor who will redeem Adam’s legacy and defend their ancestral homeland of Kahndaq, only to subsequently become mystically handcuffed to him when Adam’s plague is arrested, giving birth to perhaps the most volatile and dysfunctional super-team in DC history!
Powered by stunning art by Rafa Sandoval (Justice League) and breathtaking painted covers by Irvin Rodriguez (Detective Comics), writer Christopher Priest (Deathstroke, Justice League) brings his trademark wit and skill for character deconstruction to an entirely fresh examination of the man you love to hate! Get ready to ride the lightning!

Just in time for the upcoming Black Adam movie starring Dwayne Johnson, it’s no surprise that new stories featuring the iconic villain are being created! It remains to be seen if it’ll be worth picking up.

TV SHOW RELEASES.

Premieres on June 3rd, 2022.

The wait is over! Shit is about to hit the fan and Homelander is for sure going craaaaazy this time around!

Premieres on June 8th, 2022.

I’m very much annoyed that they changed Ms. Marvel’s powers for her live-action debut and I hope, for their sake, that everything else about this show will compensate for such creative freedom!

Premieres on June 10th, 2022 internationally (it has been out in the UK since February 2022).

It has been a while since this show hadn’t risen from the dead and I look forward to this final season.

MOVIE RELEASES.

Out on June 17th, 2022.

I’m among those who thought the idea behind this was unnecessary for the Toy Story franchise but, hey, I trust Pixar to have fun with it, and hopefully, so will I!

Out on June 24th, 2022.

You already know this one will inevitably get Oscar nominations! Austin Butler giving us his best take on Elvis and it looks good.

Out on June 24th, 2022.

This one was one of my most anticipated horror movies and I’m so glad it’s finally coming out after getting postponed. Based on the short story by writer Joe Hill, I’m convinced it’s going to be S.C.A.R.Y.

VIDEO GAME RELEASES.

The third month in a row without any major video game releases. Still glad for this, considering the insane backlog I already have. However, June is usually the month where huge video game announcements are made and I look forward to those!

PERSONAL LIFE.

Can you believe that we’re almost already halfway through the year? It’s shocking when you start realizing how fast time flies… June, however, is also the month when summer begins, and who says summer also says vacation! On the 19th, I’m out of my little city and heading out to Europe and I’m really excited to completely disconnect myself from everything here, especially work just so I can explore and enjoy life minus all the workload. I do look forward to maintaining somewhat of a balance despite all the chaos that’ll probably come before and during vacation. Let’s do this!

Thank you all for checking out my monthly anticipation post!

Now tell me what you’re looking forward to this month! Any new releases? Anything exciting you plan on doing?

Yours truly,

  1. Happy June Lashaan! Seems like there are a lot of things to look forward to this month! 😊 Good that you’re prepared for “the chaos that’ll come during vacation” ahahah 😅

  2. The cover for Locklands is so intriguing! I hadn’t heard of it before, but now I feel like checking it out.
I’m looking forward to the same shows as you, although I also have some hesitation because of them changing Ms Marvel’s powers. I just don’t really get the need for doing that …

    1. I’ve only heard great things about the first books in the trilogy and if the premise intrigues you, I think it would be totally worth checking out! I haven’t yet started Ms Marvel but I’m almost done getting through Moon Knight and look forward to typing up something about that soon as I make time for Ms Marvel next. Hope you enjoy it despite those changes, Kat! 😀

  3. I only read the first volume in Bennett’s trilogy, and have the second – Shorefall – sitting on my reader: from what I hear, the final volume should be amazing, so I look forward to hearing your comments about this very engaging series 🙂

  4. I have never read anything by Bennet but I know he’s got a sizeable back catalog.

And yet ANOTHER crisis event for DC? Man, DC needs to get a new creative team if that’s the best they can come up with.

      1. Nothing specific I can point to about Bennet. I suspect it was a combination of the plot synopsis didn’t appeal to me and the group of people who reviewed his stuff ALSO reviewed books that I less than zero interest in. So if someone was interested in Love Slaves of the Alpha Wolf series and was also interested in Bennet, well…..

  5. I loved one of Bennett’s previous trilogies so I’m really looking forward to trying this one now that the 3rd book is out. And I can’t wait to read some posts about what you did on vacation. I hope you have a great one. It’s certainly something worth looking forward to.

  6. I heard about the Elvis movie, definitely looks good! Wow, you are going on holiday to Europe, hope you will have an amazing time!! And I agree completely about time flying, I still think the year just started….

  7. No way! Peaky Blinders got another season? Not watching it anyway, but my husband certainly will 😉 Ms Marvel doesn’t look too promising, sadly. After what Disney did to Obi-Wan I think I’m not going to watch any new Disney series, Marvel or SW, except Mando.
    Happy trip to Europe, Lashaan!

    1. Hope your husband has a good time with Peaky Blinders then! I’m curious to see how they’ll handle the sudden passing of an actress within the show’s story. And yeh… Disney has been overloading us with shows and become, once more, very formulaic and unoriginal (in some way) in their story-telling vision… I can imagine the last episode of Obi-Wan really turned you off hahah Hope your own trip to Poland will be a good one, Ola!

      1. I actually haven’t even watched the last episode of Obi-Wan, Disney managed to turn me off before that 😛
…Now I really dread watching the last one!

Thanks, Lashaan! Fingers crossed all will go smoothly! We haven’t been back for 4 years already, due to the pandemic.

  8. Lashaan, that Locklands cover really is awesome, and the trilogy also sounds inviting. I had never heard of this franchise, but curious about it now. It will be interesting to see if Black Adam is carried forward in the new DCU movies after the first solo venture. I have read Johnson is actively trying to keep his character relevant, even at the expense of poor ol’ Shazam! A real-world superhero conflict!
