TOP BOOK.

Batman: Night Cries by Archie Goodwin.

This turned out to be a wonderful surprise in terms of story-telling.

Check out my full thoughts here.

LEAST FAVOURITE BOOK.

The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri.

Poor Dante. It wasn’t his fault. This was mostly a mess due to the translation and the absence of notes in this edition!

Check out my full thoughts on it here.

TOP MOVIE.

(c) IMDb.

Out of the 9 movies I watched in April 2022, Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022) was my favourite. I rarely ever give out five stars to movies but this one really nailed it!

What is Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022) about? An aging Chinese immigrant is swept up in an insane adventure, where she alone can save the world by exploring other universes connecting with the lives she could have led.

This was a powerful, vivid, and psychedelic existential crisis explored through chaotic absurdity, provocative and delirious comedy, staggering and impactful action sequences, thought-provoking banter and discussions, and a perfect versatile cast led by the talented Michelle Yeoh.

This cinematic masterpiece shines a light on life decisions and outcomes, social and intergenerational cultural gaps, acceptance, and love through an unprecedented assault on the senses, leaving viewers bewildered by the beauty hidden in nothing, everything, everywhere, and all at once.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

CURRENTLY READING.

One Eye Open by Alex Grecian.

I remember being interested in a novel by Alex Grecian years ago and this turned out to be the perfect opportunity to get a taste of his writing!

PERSONAL LIFE.

It’s been quite an eventful month, especially when spring started to show its face (we shall not speak of that day when we had a snowstorm come and go within 24 hours). I’m glad to finally see the city out of the snow, especially as this is the first time I’m seeing our new home without all the snow around it. I did despise those weeks where all we had was rain but, hey, it’s a phase. Mother Nature is bound to find a moment in the coming days to grace us with some warmth.

I was able to find a balance in my hobbies throughout the month, especially when Elden Ring took up so much of my free time just by being the masterpiece that it was. I read as much as I hoped to be able to and saw some great movies, including one that deserved a rare 5-stars. It’s always so nice to know that you’re able to do things that you want to do without feeling like Time was once again too slippery.

We also got around to booking our vacation for this summer, which will send me away for a month in Europe, similar to what I was able to achieve back in 2019 just before the pandemic. I’m hoping it’s going to be smooth sailing until departure mid-June. Fingers crossed the world doesn’t look to turn towards an apocalypse till then.

Usually, when you approach summer, deadlines also start becoming more and more recurrent, as bosses start realizing that everyone will soon go on vacation and whatnot. I’m hoping May won’t be that kind of crazy!

Thank you all for checking out my monthly wrap-up and don’t forget to check out any posts that might interest you or that you might have missed out on!

Stay tuned for my Monthly Anticipation post coming out soon. 😉

So what’s going on with y’all? What have you discovered this month? What are your thoughts on the books/TV series/movies I’ve checked out?

Yours truly,

  1. Did the gremlins sneak in and switch around your top and least-favorite books? They can be so sneaky! 🙂 I love Michelle Yeoh so I hope I can track down Everything Everywhere All at Once one of these days. Sounds great. So glad to hear about your upcoming vacation. I hope it all goes well and you have a great time. I think I recall reading about your previous one on both you and Caroline’s blogs. In fact, I seem to remember you spending some time in a book store.

    1. Probably Caro’s Italian side haunting me as we speak for putting their beloved cultural masterpiece in “Least Favourite Book”. 😛 Thanks for pointing it out! Oh man, get ready for a wild, absurd, yet hilarious ride! I loved it through and through and hope more movies can learn from this latest release. Do let me know when you get the chance to try it out. And yes! Good memory. Bookstores were prime locations for me throughout my adventure. It will probably be less the case this time around since I’ll probably be in less English-centric countries. I’ll definitely share more about it as things get finalized, and even more once I’ll be experiencing it all.

  3. Everything Everywhere All at Once sounds like a great movie – and one that might not have crossed my radar if not for your mention, so thank you! The fact that it stars the amazing Michelle Yeoh is a further incentive 😉

  4. I would want anything to have snow here. We haven’t been out of A.C. room unless necessary. Everyone I know is planning vacation here and we too are going to have little break by visiting y in-laws in Mumbai. I hope you have amazing vacation.

  6. I really, really, really want to see Everything Everywhere All at Once and all the positive feedback for it just makes me all the more excited. I hope it releases somewhere near me as well soon. Until then, I’m going to just be glad I get to watch Doctor Strange 2 today.
But what is this about a month-long trip to Europe!? We’re going to be on the same continent again, Lashaan. Sounds exciting 🙂 I hope it all goes smoothly.

    1. I was overwhelmingly pleased by what Everything Everywhere All at Once turned out to be. It was such an immersive and wonderful little absurd yet comical gem. I hope you have a blast with it soon, Kat!

Yes!!! I, unfortunately, won’t be revisiting Berlin this time around though… but I look forward to exploring new corners of Europe this summer! Thanks for the kind words, Kat!

      1. That’s awesome to hear. The trailer really got me excited but I spent the entire weekend indoors not feeling my best. Maybe next weekend. Or when it streams. I will surely share my thoughts once I see it.

    1. I am sooooo curious to hear your thoughts on Everything Everywhere All at Once if you ever end up giving it a try. It’s such an absurd, comical, and crazy movie that just does everything perfectly in my eyes. Unfortunately, I’m not aiming for Poland this time around but would’ve found it so cool to meet you! I hope you’ve been doing well lately, Ola.

I’m good, thanks, just very busy 😉 We’re going to visit Poland in July but we won’t have time to fly around Europe, unfortunately 😉 Maybe another time! Or, perhaps, if we decide to get a move on and move to Canada 😉
