My Monthly Anticipation | March 2022

Hello everyone,

Who doesn’t love the anticipation of new releases and things that they plan on doing? Every month there seems to be something new and exciting ready to hit the market for our consumption.

Being ready to embrace them with open arms is all we can really do.

To showcase this, I’ll be sharing my top 3 for each category of things that I look forward to this month right here, right now!

BOOK RELEASES.

Gallant by V.E. Schwab.
Release Date: March 1st, 2022.
Olivia Prior has grown up in Merilance School for girls, and all she has of her past is her mother’s journal—which seems to unravel into madness. Then, a letter invites Olivia to come home—to Gallant. Yet when Olivia arrives, no one is expecting her. But Olivia is not about to leave the first place that feels like home, it doesn’t matter if her cousin Matthew is hostile or if she sees half-formed ghouls haunting the hallways.
Olivia knows that Gallant is hiding secrets, and she is determined to uncover them. When she crosses a ruined wall at just the right moment, Olivia finds herself in a place that is Gallant—but not. The manor is crumbling, the ghouls are solid, and a mysterious figure rules over all. Now Olivia sees what has unraveled generations of her family, and where her father may have come from.
Olivia has always wanted to belong somewhere, but will she take her place as a Prior, protecting our world against the Master of the House? Or will she take her place beside him?

I haven’t seen Schwab’s latest story around as much as I’d think I would but here she is with another story! Not sure if it would be something that would interest me based solely on the blurb but I’ll definitely pay attention to reviews coming out for it!

The Kaiju Preservation Society by John Scalzi.
Release Date: March 15th, 2022.
When COVID-19 sweeps through New York City, Jamie Gray is stuck as a dead-end driver for food delivery apps. That is, until Jamie makes a delivery to an old acquaintance, Tom, who works at what he calls “an animal rights organization.” Tom’s team needs a last-minute grunt to handle things on their next field visit. Jamie, eager to do anything, immediately signs on.

What Tom doesn’t tell Jamie is that the animals his team cares for are not here on Earth. Not our Earth, at at least. In an alternate dimension, massive dinosaur-like creatures named Kaiju roam a warm and human-free world. They’re the universe’s largest and most dangerous panda and they’re in trouble.

It’s not just the Kaiju Preservation Society that’s found its way to the alternate world. Others have, too–and their carelessness could cause millions back on our Earth to die.

I… still haven’t tried a Scalzi story yet, despite having a couple of them on my shelves but this latest story not only has a cool title but actually explicitly mentions Covid-19 in the story! I don’t know why I find that intriguing.

Memory’s Legion by James S.A. Corey.
Release Date: March 22nd, 2022.
For the first time, all of the short fiction set in James S. A. Corey’s New York Times bestselling Expanse series is available in this collection* — includes a brand new novella. Now a major television series.

Fans of the Expanse series are bound to be happy to know that all of his short stories will now be collected in one neat volume! If I ever get far enough in this series, I know I’d be super happy about this!

COMIC BOOK RELEASES.

Issue #1 of Batman: Killing Time comes out on March 1st, 2022 over at DC Comics.
Three villains, one Dark Knight, and a deadly heist gone wrong. Catwoman, the Riddler, and the Penguin join forces to pull off the greatest robbery in the history of Gotham City. And their prize? A mysterious and priceless artifact in the secret possession of Bruce Wayne! But, as the events unfold, what fun is a heist without a bloody double cross or two?

Writer Tom King is back for a fun little story with a huge heist at the heart of it all. Can Mr. King get this right?

Issue #1 of Strange comes out on March 2nd, 2022 over at Marvel Comics.
A NEW SORCERER SUPREME RISES! Doctor Strange is dead! And a new Sorcerer Supreme has taken the title, or should we say Sorceress? Haunted by her recently returned memories, Clea longs to bring Stephen Strange back from the dead! But when a mysterious group attacks the magical realm, Clea must rise to the duties of Sorcerer Supreme. For she is now the sole protector of Earth against magical threats.

With the recent story-arc revolving around the death of Doctor Strange, it is only logical to see the title of Sorcerer Supreme fall into new hands! Let’s see how this goes!

Issue #1 of Punisher comes out on March 9th, 2022 over at Marvel Comics.
WILL THE PUNISHER’S WAR END? Born of tragedy. Devoted to war. Unstoppable in his rage. As the Punisher, Frank Castle has become the most accomplished killer the world has ever seen. Now it’s time for him to face his true destiny. What shocking secret from Frank’s past will convince him to take the reins of the Marvel Universe’s most notorious clan of assassins? And once Frank becomes the warlord of the deadly ninjas of the Hand, will it also mean an end for the Punisher? Or a whole new bloody beginning?

Writer Jason Aaron tests himself with the Punisher as he looks to explore the darker foundations of the character in this new series. Hopefully, he’s got good ideas up his sleeves for this one!

TV SHOW RELEASES.

Out on March 4th, 2022.

Fans of The Boys get to enjoy a new, ultra-violent, and seemingly fun animated series now. I am definitely curious to see if it can succeed as well as Invincible did over at Prime.

Out on March 24th, 2022.

Growing up, I was among people who loved to stir up console wars. As a loyal and passionate fan of Playstation/Sony, I never really cared much for Halo. However, it was about time for the franchise to get its own show and it seems like they kept the production value pretty high! I’m curious to see if it’ll work out or get canceled in the long term!

Out on March 30th, 2022.

This is probably the only show I’ll be watching for sure this month. Having read many comic book series starring Moon Knight, I can confidently say that the show is cooking up something good with Oscar Isaac playing this lunatic!

MOVIE RELEASES.

Out on March 4th, 2022.

THE ONLY MOVIE THAT MATTERS THIS YEAR!!!!!!!!! I have avoided every trailer so far and am going to the Fan First Event tonight to watch it in theaters!!!! I am beyond excited to find out what director Matt Reeves, Robert Pattinson, and Zoe Kravitz are about to deliver on the big screen. You’re sure to hear more from me in an upcoming post about it all!!!!! THE HYPE IS REAL!! ❤

Out on March 4th, 2022.

A24 has been releasing some truly fascinating pieces of cinema these past few years and the latest movie, After Yang, looks totally thought-provoking and fascinating. I look forward to watching this.

Out on March 11th, 2022.

The latest Pixar movie is here and it looks fun! While the themes seem a bit too obvious, I look forward to watching this movie nonetheless (the recent non-Pixar Disney animated movies haven’t been too mind-blowing lately).

VIDEO GAME RELEASES.

Out on March 4th, 2022.

I’ve never been a huge fan of racing simulators and always preferred the more arcade-ish style of racing with games like Need for Speed but these racing simulators, especially the Gran Turismo franchise, have continued to outdo themselves with each release. This can definitely be a nice game to play occasionally in between all the other… bloodier… experiences. 😀

Out on March 18th, 2022.

It’s now Final Fantasy‘s turn to explore the Soulsborne formula! As a fan of these types of games, I’ll definitely be giving it a try just to see what innovative ideas they bring to the table. Maybe they just kept the same formula and adapted to the FF world. To be determined.

Out on March 25th, 2022.

For those of you who have played the Borderlands games, this will seem familiar as the same developer highlights one of their side characters and went nuts with her unique universe while maintaining the Borderlands mechanics! If anything, it looks wild and I’m curious to see if it might not end up being the best game they’ve yet to release!

PERSONAL LIFE.

And so begins a brand new month! When it comes to blogging, I am filled with unprecedented energy to remain consistent with the content I put up on my new blog! It’s still the same old me but something about not having anything latched on by the ankle just feels so emancipating. And honestly, it helps when I know I got kind-hearted and like-minded people supporting me! Thank you guys for being awesome.

As far as the rest of my hobbies go, I do have to mention that I have replunged into the world of audiobooks to try and sneak in more “reading” into my life. As a new homeowner, I often find myself doing even more tasks than usual that require almost no cognition and those tasks take a lot of my time. And that’s when I remembered how some of y’all actually use these opportunities to listen to an audiobook and, so far, it’s been working marvelously. I mostly try to listen to books that I probably won’t purchase, that I know are risky in terms of quality, and maybe even stuff that I usually wouldn’t pick up just because I’d rather read something else. That way, the books I KNOW I want to read (not listen) will be read in their paper format! Let’s see if that’ll work in the long run…

I’m hoping that my pursuit of balance can continue this month as well. What I find most tough is when there are unexpected things that need to be done or activities that I never planned ahead of time. I’m starting to find a nice groove right now and I’m looking forward to using this month of March to figure out a program that works for me. I got this! 🙂

Thank you all for checking out my monthly anticipation post!

Now tell me what you’re looking forward to this month! Any new releases? Anything exciting you plan on doing?

Yours truly,

Banner1

  1. I never quite figured out if Galant is MG or YA? I don’t know why, but I’ve generally struggled with books targeted at younger audiences, so I’m trying not to read those as much anymore. I will DEFINITELY watch Moon Knight though! I don’t know if my work schedule will let me do same day reviews, but that would normally be my plan 🙂
Hope you’ll have a fantastic March!

    1. I honestly don’t know too. It being MG might explain why I’ve barely heard much hype around it too. I do hope you get around to doing those episodic thoughts on Moon Knight! I’d try to follow along but I don’t always watch each episode as soon as they release hahah Look forward to exchanging notes on it though! Have a fantastic month of March, Kat! 😀

      1. Sooo, a friend of mine said that the main character of Galant reads quite young and that 12-13 year olds could definitely read it, but I don’t think it’s MG per se.
Yeah, I checked my work schedule and I won’t be able to watch and review the first episode of Moon Knight right away, which is a bummer, but I’ll probably still try and do it on the day it releases.

  2. It’s weird, but I’ve noticed that the hype surrounding Schwab’s books seems to have died down a bit. Admittedly, I wasn’t even aware she had another book coming out.

Now, Moon Night and Batman are easily the single most important releases of the month and maybe the year. I’m trying not to read any reviews on the batman beforehand so I can go into it completely blind.

It’s exciting to hear that you’re a home owner. How have you settled into the house?

Hope you have a fantastic month. 😁

    1. I found her Addie LaRue story really good though. I do hope that the only reason Gallant seems to be under-hyped is that it might just be MG or YA? I’m sure we’ll hear more from readers who pick it up this month.

I hope you have a blast with both The Batman and Moon Knight, Lois! I saw The Batman twice already and it was FANTASTIC!

It was a round couple of days at first but a bit over a month into now and me and my girlfriend have settled in quite nicely and look forward every day to end the of the day (and weekends) just to relax and cozy up! 😛

Have an awesome month of March as well, Lois! 😀

  3. Moon knight 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁 I already liked the character, and Oscar Isaac is just 😍😍😍 (me being ace, celebrity crushed don’t happen… he is the exception).

Schwab and Scalzi are both hit or miss authors for me, so I’m waiting for the reviews.

  4. Spoiler for the Batman.
    BATMAN’S SECRET IDENTITY IS……
    bruce wayne!

Amazing, right? Who ever saw THAT plot twist coming 😉

I only played pc games back in the 90’s, as I couldn’t afford a dedicated game console. And by the time I could afford one in the 00’s, I had completely lost interest. There needs to be some of the old games for these new consoles, like frogger, or Pitfall or even Contra. Something us oldsters can get into and get accustomed to these new fangled doodads with 100 million buttons on them 😉

    1. Hahahah interestingly, the movie doesn’t have too much “Bruce Wayne”, if I can say so. 😛 Hey, those games are all playable today, one way or another. There are PC emulators all over the place too just to be sure that you can play certain games that would otherwise require a specific console. A quick search of Contra on Google leads you to the whole game for free right on your computer too hahaha Never too late to become a gamer again, Stooge! 😛

  5. I hope you enjoy Batman! I used to love playing some of the Need for Speed titles on my PC. I had a nice force feedback wheel and pedals, loved driving with those. I even played some of them for a short time on my first smartphone, though that didn’t last all that long. I’ve never tried the Gran Turismo games (are they console only?) so I’m not sure how they compare. Glad to hear you sounding so positive right now. I hope that continues as you keep working on that sense of balance.

    1. It was fantastic, Todd! I’d recommend it to you. It’s not like any other superhero movie nowadays. It’s fully grounded, fully noir, a crime thriller, a murder mystery set within Gotham! 😀

I once tried a wheel and pedal on the Playstation 3 but it was before I even got my license and had a hard time figuring out how to make it fun hahahah I can only imagine what those wheels and pedals are like today! 😮 And yes, Gran Turismo is a Playstation exclusive title and can only ever be played on that console! 😀 It’s their titular staple driving simulator. If you try it once, you’ll be convinced for life hahah

Hope you have a fantastic month of March, Todd!

  6. I’ll be loolking forward to your opinion on Batman! 😀 Moon Knight does look interesting, I sure hope they’ll do it right – after all, compared to Moon Knight, even Castle looks like a boy scout. As for Aaron taking over the Punisher… Mhm, not convinced 😉 His early Thors were cool, but then it just all went down pretty roughly, with Odinson (what a stupid name) relegated to a 3rd rate character in his own comic 😉 We’ll see!
    Happy March, Lashaan!

    1. As my review of The Batman might indicate just from its length, it’s a solid movie that you should try out, Ola! It ain’t no Snyder/Affleck Batman. 😉 And, absolutely! If done right, Moon Knight can be so much wilder than Punisher and I hope Disney will allow the show to get a bit more twisty. Yep… Aaron is such a hit or miss nowadays. I’m not convinced it’ll be anything like what Ennis can offer! Hope March has been kind to you so far, Ola! 😀

  7. Welcome to the world of audiobooks while doing chores Lashaan! Now may I for once recommend a movie to you? I went to see Belle by Mamoru Hosuda and it’s amazing to watch. I don’t know if that anime is in the theater in Canada but it’s so worth it!

    1. Yes! Chores, groceries, long walks to certain destinations! Now audiobooks fit so well in those contexts. I hope I can maintain it. 😛

Duly noted for Belle!!!! I heard amazing things about it and I’m so glad to hear that you got around to seeing it before I could hahah I’ll let you know as soon as I’ve seen it, Sophie! 😀

  8. Even though I’ve read most of the Expanse short stories, a one-volume collection is indeed a must for a fan of the series like me, and Memory’s Legion will go on my TBR as soon as possible!
As for the new Scalzi, I’ve been lucky enough to get the ARC from the publisher, and I can tell you that it shows a John Scalzi back in splendid form 🙂

    1. I had a feeling it would please fans like you! I really need to start the Expanse series soon. Your love for it has always made me want to get around to it sooner rather than later!

I’ll look out for your review for that Scalzi story! It does sound intriguing and I hope it’s as good as it sounds! 😀

  9. I’m a bit puzzled about the Batman film. Wasn’t it Ben Affleck’s passion project once? It is difficult to be inventive here now, but I am pleased the focus is the Riddler. I am not that knowledgeable about the comic and am keen to find out about this character.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Yep! It was supposed to be something he’d write, produce, and direct. Unfortunately, he had personal issues (drinking problem, I think) that led him to let go of the project. Director Matt Reeves rewrote the script and as you’ve mentioned, offers us The Riddler as a deranged serial killer, greatly inspired by the Zodiac killer. And now that I’ve seen it twice (also dropped a review of it today), I can confirm that it was a brilliant, new, ultra-grim take on the Dark Knight and I’m convinced this trilogy will be a top-tier live-action Batman adaptation down the line.

    1. Oh my god, Jee! I’m so glad that you dropped by my new blog! I hope we can continue our interactions from this end of my virtual world to yours going forward. I also hope you’ve been getting more time for yourself these past weeks! And yes, The Batman was phenomenal! It got me to write a helluva long review too in the end. 😛 Thanks for dropping by, Jee! 😀

  10. That’s great you found a groove that suits you. I’m still in search of a decent routine. I thought I had it down for a while but then things unexpectedly got busy again.
Love your excitement for the Batman movie. I hope it’s good. I’m thinking to wait awhile to see it… hopefully I remember to.

  11. Nice to visit you on your very own blog for the first time! I think it’s nice to have a personal blog, where only I decide what to post and how to do things. But then again, I’ve never been good at sharing! 😆 You must let us know how you get on with audiobooks. As you may know, audio is completely dominating my “reading” these days, but I also know readers, who just can’t get into that format.

    1. Hahaha I can totally understand and I’m quite glad to do so now. I was tired that someone else was piggybacking off of all my effort and I wanted to have more creative control over what I wanted to put up on my blog too! Thank you so much for following me along out here though. I appreciate the support so much.

I had my first expedition into the world of audiobooks a while back but I could never find a way to fit it into my schedule and finish books at a pace I felt comfortable with. But now? I’m so happy with how I fit it into my schedule!!! I definitely look forward to seeing how I fare by the end of the month though.
