Hello ladies & gentlemen,
Who doesn’t love the anticipation of new releases and things that they plan on doing? Every month there seems to be something new and exciting ready to hit the market for our consumption.
Being ready to embrace them with open arms is all we can really do.
To showcase this, I’ll be sharing my top 3 for each category of things that I look forward to this month right here, right now!
TO BE READ.
Enter a city of dragons and darkness.
The Godswar has come to Guerdon, dividing the city between three occupying powers. While the fragile Armistice holds back the gods, other forces seek to extend their influence. The criminal dragons of the Ghierdana ally with the surviving thieves – including Spar Idgeson, once heir to the Brotherhood of Thieves, now transformed into the living stone of the New City.
Meanwhile, far across the sea, Spar’s friend Carillon Thay travels towards the legendary land of Khebesh, but she, too, becomes enmeshed in the schemes of the Ghierdana – and in her own past. Can she find what she wants when even the gods seek vengeance against her?
With this third installment, I should have a pretty good idea of the author’s writing style. I was a bit disappointed with the second one but I’m hoping this one will give me hope for the remainder of the 5-installment series.
In the aftermath of a cataclysmic civil war known as the Sequel, ideological divisions among the states have hardened. In the Homestead Territories, an alliance of plantation-inspired holdings, Black labor is imported from the Cradle, and Biracial “Muleseeds” are bred. Raised in captivity on Planting 437, kitchen-seed Jellybean “Ji-ji” Lottermule knows there is only one way fto escape. She must enter the annual Freedom Race as a runner. Ji-ji and her friends must exhume a survival story rooted in the collective memory of a kidnapped people and conjure the voices of the dead to light their way home.
My digital book for the month and a rare speculative fiction in my reading rotation too. Let’s see how this goes.
BOOK RELEASES.
After more than five hundred years of exile, the heir to the empyre is wary about his sudden reassignment to active duty on the Goblin War’s front lines. His assignment to rescue an outpost leads to a dead-end canyon deep inside enemy territory, and his suspicion turns to dread when he discovers the stronghold does not exist. But whoever went to the trouble of planning his death to look like a casualty of war did not know he would be assigned to the Seventh Sikaria Auxiliary Squadron. In the depths of an unforgiving jungle, a legend is about to be born, and the world of Elan will never be the same.
From Michael J. Sullivan, the New York Times, USA Today, and Washington Post bestselling author, a new adventure begins with the first book in The Rise and Fall trilogy. Although this series is set in the same world as the Riyria novels and the Legends of the First Empire books, it is a standalone tale. As such, no prior knowledge of the other works is required to enjoy this tale to its fullest.
I’ve always wanted to read his books but never got around to it. Here he is, back at it again, with a brand new series. Fans must be delighted.
When you are all out of heroes, all that’s left are the villains.
Black Herran was a dread demonologist, and the most ruthless general in all Essoran. She assembled the six most fearsome warriors to captain her armies: a necromancer, a vampire lord, a demigod, an orcish warleader, a pirate queen, and a twisted alchemist. Together they brought the whole continent to its knees… Until the day she abandoned her army, on the eve of total victory.
40 years later, she must bring her former captains back together for one final stand, in the small town of Tarnbrooke – the last bastion against a fanatical new enemy tearing through the land, intent on finishing the job Black Herran started years before.
Seven bloodthirsty monsters. One town. Their last hope.
My current read and one that should promise a lot of fun time too!
COMIC BOOK RELEASES.
Spanning the years between the hit TV show and today, Pennyworth tells the continuing adventures of Alfred Pennyworth as an MI6 counterintelligence agent—this time in Cold War-era Soviet Russia. When Alfred and his partner receive intelligence that nuclear weapons are being manufactured near the Arctic Circle, they’re off to infiltrate the remote military base to learn more. But things don’t go exactly as planned, and the ramifications of this mission may be more far-reaching than anyone could have guessed, as our present-day butler gets dragged back into his past…
Time to explore that secret agent history of our good ol’ butler! If you’ve been following the show, this might in fact be a mini-series worth keeping an eye out for.
THE STORY THAT WILL SHAKE KRAKOA TO ITS CORE! A horrific murder. A shocking revelation. A trial that will divide the new mutant nation. Leah Williams (X-FACTOR, GWENPOOL STRIKES AGAIN) and Lucas Werneck (EMPYRE: X-MEN, MARAUDERS) bring you a new epic that threatens the Reign of X and will upend the world of mutants. The truth is hidden, the danger is far from over, and the trial has begun!
Time to shake things up in the X-Men world as Magneto gets the spotlight in a murder mystery. Hopefully, this will be worthwhile!
A historical NEW ongoing SPAWN series begins! The launch of this book, nearly three decades in the making, further expands the SPAWN UNIVERSE with a growing presence of Hell, Heaven, and Heroes here on Earth. A classic villain from Spawn’s past has begun asserting his powers on Earth by corrupting as many souls as possible. And only Spawn knows that he even exists. Continuing the dramatic battles from SPAWN’S UNIVERSE #1, this is where it all begins! Don’t miss out…the last time a new ongoing SPAWN series launched was in 1992.
How can anyone even say no to a new Spawn series with THAT kind of cover? Absolutely gorgeous cover art. Hopefully, the stories/artwork can live up to the expectations it has created from me!
TV SHOW RELEASES.
The second season of this beloved series is just around the corner!
This animated what-if series is a really cool concept and I’m hoping that they’ll be able to deliver some good stories with it. I wonder if they also got bigger plans for it too… Maybe a live-action what-if multiverse? 😀
MOVIE RELEASES.
My most anticipated movie of the summer!!!!! I didn’t even watch any of the trailers but I’ll probably be the first one sitting in theaters for this one. I can’t wait to share my thoughts on it with you guys too.
A truly excellent and respectable casting decision for the lead role and one can only expect excellent musical segments from this biopic too.
I’ll probably watch anything Jordan Peele directs nowadays. A truly visionary director who puts back the respect in horror movies.
PERSONAL LIFE.
I’m already looking forward to September. And then this has me realizing that 2021 is almost over too. How is that even possible. You’d think that time would someday surprise you by moving slowly but I have yet to ever actually witness that.
August is going to be a busy month in general. Especially the first half, if you ask me. I got these assignments to hand in this month that should take up most of my free time but I don’t want to drain myself mentally going through it all so I’m hoping I’ll be able to balance out everything to come out alive and sane. Anyway, with some pretty cool releases this month, I definitely got plenty to look forward to.

Thank you all for checking out my monthly anticipation post!
Now tell me what you’re looking forward to this month! Any new releases? Anything exciting you plan on doing?
Yours truly,

Thank you for letting me know that Suicide Squad two is out this month. And have fun with all these released.

THIS Sullivan fan is not happy about this new trilogy. I want him to finish up the Ryria Chronicles.
Good luck juggling everything. Makes me thankful my life is as non-full as I can make it 🙂

I knew you were a huge fan of the dude (I remember seeing a Kickstarter support post that got you a hardcover edition of one of the books I think) but I assumed that series was finished! Now that must be frustrating hahaha
Maybe in a couple of years, I can finally embrace such a life too! 😀

It’s not so much that Chronicles is “unfinished” as it is just kind of left hanging. Where he ends you could immediately go on to the Revelations series and it would all make perfect sense. It’s more that I “want” more Royce and Hadrian, hahahahaa 😀
Don’t become a hermit though 🙂

I hope your August is very successful. I have 3 weeks off of school coming up and I’m currently trying to plan the perfect, fat, fantasy novel to read in that time. :3

No better way to escape the trials of school! I hope you pick a good one and have a fantastic month of August too! 😀

I think I remember reading some What If…? comics way back in the day. A great place for stories you might never see anywhere else. Not sure whether I might still have any. And is Candyman a remake, or another in the series? I hope you have a great month, Lashaan, with at least a little free time to enjoy.

Yep. DC has a lot of “Elseworlds” stories for that kind of stuff too. It’s always fascinating to see what kind of ludicrous ideas some creators want to explore. I do have to admit that they aren’t all gems though. And yes, Candyman is a sequel to the 1992 movie, this time directed by Jordan Peele (Get Out, Us). Have a fantastic month as well, Todd! 😀

Hope you have a great month! I have only recently watched Suicide Squad, it was fun and I loved the characters! I find it a little weird that the new film is The Suicide Squad, couldn’t they think of a name?!

Hahaha it is indeed a confusing name but at least it follows the same concept as the upcoming Batman movie (The Batman). I also love that it’s a soft reboot and it embraces its craziness better than ever before! Have an awesome August as well! 😀

I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the first season of Stargirl and I’m really curious to see which direction the second season takes. I was so hyped for Titans initially, but while I love the cast, the show itself just has moments of brilliance and is so inconsistent at the moment.
Hope you have a great month. I can’t wait it hear what you think of The Magnificent Seven.

I’m convinced they’ll do a good job for Stargirl. It’s really Titans that scares me. Like you mentioned here, it has awesome moments but it’s so inconsistent at times, and the finale of S2 was a huge pill to swallow. I do hope they’ll surprise us with S3! Have an awesome month of August, Lois! Stay safe too! 😀

It blows my mind that the year is already half done. I’ve been trying to really “be in the moment” as a way to make the days seem slower. I hate it when it seems that time is speeding by.
So excited for that Candyman movie. Been a while since I’ve seen the old one.

It’s tough. I mean… We’re already 12 days into the month of August. Like… how… Hahahahah I’ll probably revisit the classic movie before checking out Peele’s sequel! So curious to see what he has in store for us now. 😀
