PERSONAL LIFE

You’d think that January would mark the beginning of great changes, a time where I and everyone else would modify our habits and go wild with a fresh perspective on what we want of our lives, but I think rushing into such changes would only bring more harm than anything else. Right now, I think I’m in a good place where everything is adequately locked into my schedule with enough wiggle room for any upcoming necessary changes requiring some form of prioritizing.

For the month of January, I mostly look forward to getting my gears turning back to a proper working rhythm. While it shouldn’t take me more than a week for that, I still believe it’s important that we progress through things rather than plunge into things headfirst without properly getting a hang of things.

Nonetheless, I still think it’s nice to see January as the month to reboot your system. I do hope everyone will have a smooth transition between 2019 and 2020.

  1. Wow, you’ve never read Harry Potter. I’m actually impressed with that. Looking forward to what you think of them. I read them as they came out and as a 20something was less than impressed by the final book. They’re not something I ever plan on re-reading 🙂

I think “Picard” is going to be an epic flop. Not because Stewart is old but I just can’t see writers today actually telling a good enough story. Nostalgia factor gives it 1 season, tops, if that.

And cheers to not wrecking a good thing just for “changes” sake 😀

    1. I too picked up my copy when it was released but I can’t remember if I even finished it and don’t consider that time as my first attempt at all hahah

I can definitely see why you’d think Picard will flop. I’d prefer thinking it will than to be disappointed by a cash-grab attempt at small-screen cinema…

    1. Happy New Year to you too, Nicki! I hope 2020 will be a fantastic year for you and all the audiobooks you’ll be listening too! 😉 Ohhh, I actually saw your quick review on Goodreads the other day and how unimpressed you were by it. I wonder if Stephen Fry can cure it all for you. 😮

I know, right? It’ll probably be a good braindead fun movie hahaha

  2. Like Stooge, I wonder how you’ll react to HP. Sometimes I wonder if I’d enjoy it as much as I did back in the day if I was to read it today. I hope you do, because it was a magical tale.

The Gentleman looks awesome. I haven’t heard of it before you post, so thank you.

  3. Here’s hoping you love Harry Potter. My favorite was the third and I never read the last one, I lost interest. 🤷🏻‍♀️ But it is kind of a milestone as a book blogger to have read at least the first and declared your interest level. Have you watched The Witcher yet? I’m on episode 3 or 4. I’m interested in your thoughts. Happy reading and watching in January. I hope you fall easily back into your rhythms. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

    1. Hahahah you’re absolutely right about HP. I feel like all bloggers have read it too. I’ve watched the first episode of the Witcher and look forward to completing it. So far, I’m engaged but not impressed. 😉 Hope January will prove to be a wonderful month for you too, Dani! 😀

  4. The Wayward Children series is one of McGuire’s best works – even though I must admit I’m a fan, and therefore somewhat biased… 😀
And I didn’t know that The Outsider was going to be turned into a TV series! That will be an interesting one to watch.

    1. Hahahaha I do love her work, under McGuire or her pseudonym. I definitely want to pick up her Wayward Children series as soon as possible though. And yes, it’s now a TV series. I wonder if it’ll be any good or just be a poor adaptation like some of the movies based on his books… 😮

  5. I’m about to start The Unspoken Name, a release I’m very curious about! I recently just checked Spellslinger off my backlist, I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to the rest of the series. January is pretty quiet for me on the release front, so I’m using the time to wrangle my ARC pile backlog, I should be caught up by the end of the month!

    1. I’ve seen The Unspoken Name around and fell in love with that cover too hahah I hope you enjoy it! I also hope the rest of the Spellslinger series will prove to be just as good as the first one! 😀 And you’re right. I feel like December/January is often quiet in terms of new releases. Plenty of time to try and catch up on must-reads! 😀 Happy reading!

  6. I’m with you on Ide and McGuire. As for Potter? Let your inner child have the reins and you’ll love it. Just did the audiobooks last year (have read the whole series three times, some of the earlier books up to 7x)–they’ll live up to the hype.

    1. I am super happy to hear that! It’s so exciting to know that such a trilogy even exists. Hope you enjoy it to the end, Mogsy! And yes, I totally agree. I probably won’t be getting around to these TV series/movies till later in the year myself hahah 😀

  7. I’m seeing a lot of people featuring James Islington’s series at the moment and I’m really curious to read them.

Dracula aired over the holiday for us and it didn’t take my fancy. Thee was just something about it that didn’t click with me and I gave up after about half an hour haha.

I’m not sure what to make of ‘Picard’. It could be brilliant or a total flop.

    Happy New Year.

    1. So far, book one definitely had my attention and hopefully book two and three will do just as good, if not better.

Oh snap, that’s unfortunate. I have high expectations for it since the same crew behind Sherlock is on it hahah

If you ever try Picard, I hope you enjoy it.

Thanks, Lois! Happy New Year to you too! 😀

  8. You probably don’t need me to say this as you know doubt already know, but…I CANNOT WAIT for Picard!!! Hotly anticipating the dawn of a new Batman run with #86 and the Star Wars relaunch moving things to between Empire and Return of the Jedi…although I still need to catch up with the first series (about halfway on that at the moment).

2020 is set to be another golden year for fans of cool, geeky stuff!

      1. Haha, yeah I’m certainly a DIE HARD fan – it’s a franchise that I’ve loved longer than anything else and is always dear to me – even in it’s weaker moments. I’ll definitely be posting my thoughts on Picard!

        I’ve also got a non-spoiler review of Batman #86 coming this weekend…
