Lashaan’s Monthly Anticipation | November 2019

Hello ladies & gentlemen,

Who doesn’t love the anticipation of new releases and things that they plan on doing? Every month there seems to be something new and exciting ready to hit the market for our consumption.

Being ready to embrace them with open arms is all we can really do.

To showcase this, I’ll be sharing my top 3 for each category of things that I look forward to this month right here, right now!

Following the King’s Dark Tidings, Kel Kade brings us a brand new trilogy! I can’t wait to dive into this one soon.
11138378
It’s time to finally dive into another classic that has stayed unread for far too long!
19161794
It’s going to be time to tackle the next big entry in what is turning out to be one of my favourite fantasy series out there! Check out my review of book 2, The Blinding Knife to find out why!

BOOK RELEASES

43575115. sy475
8 years after the release of The Night Circus, Erin Morgenstern returns to the realm of literature with a brand new novel. Will it live up to everyone’s expectations? Out on November 5th 2019!
44286477
Last time I read anything by Claire North (see my review of 84K), I had a blast. Her mind explores so much uncharted territory and I’m all in for her next novel! Out on November 12th 2019!
43979540
Although I haven’t read Skyward, I am definitely excited to see what everyone will think of Starsight. I’ll most likely get around to reading everything by this author at some point anyways. Out on November 26th, 2019!

COMIC BOOK RELEASES

Legion of Super-Heroes #1
There goes writer Brian Michael Bendis again with another new series and this time it’s the Legion of Super-Heroes! I wonder how much more can this man produce at the pace he’s going! The first issue comes out on November 6th, 2019!
Punisher Soviet #1
Writer Garth Ennis returns back with Marvel to write the Punisher again. Can this be any more exciting? The first issue comes out on November 13th, 2019!
The Question: The Deaths of Vic Sage #1
As part of DC’s Black Label imprint, a brand new mini-series written by Jeff Lemire and illustrated by Bill Sienkiewicz featuring the Question is coming. This sounds super promising. The first issue comes out on November 20th, 2019!

TV SHOW RELEASES

HBO and BBC attempt to adapt the classic trilogy into a live-action TV series! Will it work?

The first episode premieres on November 4th, 2019!

To launch Disney’s new streaming service (Disney+), a brand-new never-before-seen live-action Star Wars TV series is coming out! While this will hurt many people’s wallets, the hype is real! Or is it?

The first episode premieres on November 12th, 2019!

DC continues to expand its collection on its own streaming service (DC Universe) by giving us a brand-new mature-content Harley Quinn animated series! Nothing like riding the buzz train that Margot Robbie started in Suicide Squad, right?

The first episode premieres on November 29th, 2019!

MOVIE RELEASES

I have been waiting for this movie since the day it was just a rumour. The return of Joe Pesci? Alongside Robert De Niro and Al Pacino? And the trio directed by the great Martin Scorsese? I’m dying of anticipation. This can’t and won’t disappoint. I mean, I already got my ticket for this cinematic beast!

Out on November 1st!

I hesitated between sharing Doctor Sleep (2019), the sequel to the iconic movie The Shining, and FORD v. FERRARI but I believe this one might impress me a lot more with a true story on the clash between two huge car designers.

Out on November 15th!

Throughout my childhood, I remember watching countless episodes of Mister Rogers and learning so many life lessons from him. At some point, I did find the show to be a bit creepy but I never really knew why so I simply moved on but this biographical drama where Tom Hanks plays Mister Rogers is a must-watch for me! He’s putting on his Oscar pants for this one!

Out on November 22nd!

PERSONAL LIFE

Can’t blame me for seeing November as that transition month where you drop all the costumes to get ready for winter, to embrace the first snowflakes, to accept that December is next and another year is just about fly by. Again. I mean, come on, we’re already so close to closing out a new decade. Isn’t that amazing?

So far, there aren’t too many huge events that I need to prepare myself for but it’s definitely a month where I need to take the opportunity to be a step ahead (well… an extra step ahead if I’m not already) so that December doesn’t come roaring at my doorstep, looking to feast on me. I don’t know if anyone ever keeps track of their yearly resolutions but I think November is the moment to make sure you’ve completed some of your goals before guilt or regret kicks in.

I’ve been embracing a wonderful weekly structure/routine that has helped me prioritize the things I want to accomplish while never putting aside the things I have to complete. I’m going to use this new month to continue this trend and see what I can do more of without costing too much on my self. I mean, it’s not like I need sleep. Sleep just takes away precious time I could put into doing other cool things! Batman would agree.

Thank you all for checking out my monthly anticipation post!

Now tell me what you’re looking forward to this month! Any new releases? Anything exciting you plan on doing?

Yours truly,

  1. Whatever your recent routine is, it really seems to be working from a blogging perspective.

I hope that the Punisher: Soviet is about Punisher kicking communist butt. Probably not though. Given Marvel’s recent slide towards the sjw side, it wouldn’t surprise me if Punisher BECAME a communist 😦 I would cry though.

Whatever my feelings about Star Wars and the abomination of Disney starting their own streaming channel, I am interested in seeing how Mandalorian turns out. I want it to succeed, but only if it is good and not pablum. I’m desperately trying to be optimistic…

    1. It’s definitely a consolation to know that I can keep up this rhythm, considering that the mere thought of the number of books I want to read could kill any form of happiness hahaha

The only thing I can confirm is that there are Russians getting slain in this one. But hopefully the SJW mindset won’t infiltrate the Punisher’s realm…

I’m with you when it comes to Mandalorian. It has potential and hopefully it won’t have that awful Disney formula that is oversaturated in their Marvel/SW movies nowadays…

      1. Being content in whatever stage you are at is a great sign of maturity. Or laziness 😉 Your choice 😀 😀 😀

Oh man, Punisher killing Russians sounds great. I hope it turns out fantastic.

If Mando turns out really awesome, I could see that being a possible re-entry point for me and SW. But it would have to be REALLY good…

  2. The Colour of Magia, yay 🙂 This is the classic Pratchett, in many ways not as good as his later novels, certainly not as brilliant a satire on modern (or every 😉 ) society, but that’s where my love for him started, hope you’ll like it as well!
I’m also waiting for the Irishman, it’s rumored to be very good, and with the names involved – it probably is 🙂

    1. Yay! I am a huge Terry Pratchett fan. I think this is an early, if not the first, Discworld book and Terry finds his pace after a couple of books. I hope you enjoy it, Lashaan. If you do, you are in for dozens of wonderful books. I like to read a nice, light Pratchett book after reading something difficult. It sort of cleanses the pallet.

    2. I’m definitely looking forward to finding out if his sense of humour/writing style/ideas will click with me too. I know how much you love his stuff and hopefully I’ll be able to share that love of yours.

I’m convinced it’s good. I don’t know a single Scorsese movie that didn’t impress me to this day. It’s going to be an awesome 3 hours and 30 minutes of my life! 😀

  3. Disney has a tendency to leave a bad taste in my mouth, but ‘The Mandalorian’ looks incredible. I have read a few ‘Star Wars’ novels and the Mandalorian culture is pretty cool.

Ooo, ‘The Irishman’ looks good. Not a big Pesci fan, but I love Deniro and I am in AWE of Pacino. I feel as if I have not seen him in a long, long, time. Also, the story of mob involvement with ‘Bay of Pigs’, and the assassination of Kennedy is fascinating.

Ford vs. Ferrari looks really good. I luv me some sixties hot-rods, buddy. That is hilarious to see Christian Bale as a butt-ugly redneck. 🙂

    Blast you, Lashaan!
The trailer for ‘A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood’ got me. I’m not crying, y’all, I just got something in my eye.
This is amazing. I have not seen anything so positive and without any ugliness in a long while. This movie is going to be full of one tear-jerking scene after another, but unlike being tearful for when an author kills your favorite character, these are tears of sweetness. This reminds me of the old movie, ‘I Remember Mama’. I cry all the way through, every time I see it, but they are tears of endearment.

    Thanks for sharing.

    1. I’m with you about Disney. I have come to despise their formula in their Marvel/SW movies and I pray that their TV series won’t continue down that route.

I love Pesci in Scorsese movies. But to have all three of them together in a Scorsese movie is a dream come true for hardcore fans. It’s going to be one of those true crime mobster movies that modern cinema craves for today! A reminder of great cinema, I’m convinced.

Hahahahah tell me about it. It’s amazing what kinds of transformation (physical and psychological) that Bale goes through just for a role. It’s why I feel like this one might be pretty good.

I am completely with you about that one too. I had a smile on my face from start to finish for the trailer of A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood. I don’t even think it’ll venture in the cheesy side of things. It’s just so pure-intentioned that it’ll come reach deep down in the hearts of so many.

      It’s my pleasure. 😀

  4. How do you discover all of the things that are coming out each month. I never knew how people awaited book releases. I don’t know until I see it in the bookstore.”The starless” and “The pursuit” really have enticing covers. Yes, I judge books by their covers.

    1. Social media and research. It’s how hype is often built nowadays and it’s how we hear about things to come. I also do these posts to highlight the best of the best that I look forward to. But… there’s A LOT more out there to come out, and some that might interest you even more than what I share here hahaha

Ahhh yes. I can assure you that there isn’t a person out there who doesn’t judge a book by its cover. It would be a lie otherwise! 😀

  5. So excited to hear your thoughts on Fate of the Fallen! It’s been one of my favorite reads this year. I’m also looking forward to The Starless Sea though I haven’t heard much about it so far. And good luck wrapping up those “New” Year’s resolutions!

  6. An exciting and varied list Lashaan! I’m also looking forward to those comic book releases: Legion (fingers crossed Bendis delivers the goods once more), Punisher: Soviet (more Garth Ennis Punisher? Hell yes!) and The Question (intrigued by this character after his appearances in “Event Leviathan”).

I’ll probably be checking out the Irishman and man, I would love to see The Mandalorian (no U.K. release date for Disney+ announced yet) and the Harley Quinn animated series looks fun (alas, no DC Universe in the U.K. so depends if another service picks it up…I’m still waiting for that to happen with Doom Patrol…sigh).

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Absolutely with you on all of those. There’s also Sean Murphy’s Von Freeze stand-alone story that I look forward to, as well as Tom King’s impending end to his Batman run, as he gets closer and closer to his final issue.

Actually, wasn’t Doom Patrol picked up by HBO Max? I think I saw it amongst all the DC content that HBO Max will now own. Which… makes me wonder if it’s another service worth looking into…

      Liked by 1 person

      1. Yeah, I do recall reading that Doom Patrol will be on both DC Universe and HBO Max…and, again, it seem that won’t be available in the U.K. due to an existing deal between HBO and Sky TV (so there’s some hope it might get picked up there).

Ah man, it saddens me to say this but “City of Bane” is proving quite disappointing…I hope it picks up in the last couple of issues but I’m not sure it can – I still look forward to seeing what the Batman/Catwoman series have in store though!

        Liked by 1 person

      2. It is indeed really sad that so much content isn’t as accessible as Netflix makes them. And with soooo many different subscriptions, I don’t know what they think will happen to the market… Or our wallets.

I’ve lowered my expectations so much with YOUR comment on it right there hahahah If YOU think it’s disappointing, I feel like I’m going to burn it down to the ground…. I’ll just remain hopeful that Bat/Cat or Tynion’s Batman run will be better…

  7. My reading plans went up yesterday, at the moment Miliu and i are on our way to Amsterdam… expect an “incomming” soon as well as a few new things, post will be up in about half an hour🙂. November is looking great for you already. Take care my friend.

    1. That’s actually fantastic news, good sir. Especially when I know about those awful slumps you’ve had to deal with in the past. Oh man, I miss Amsterdam. It really was a fantastic trip I had during the summer. I wonder what it’s like there during these “colder” seasons. I’ll definitely check out what you’ve got in store for us soon. Take care as well! 😀

  8. Looks like November is going to be a stellar month! I’m also really looking forward to Starsight and The Starless Sea.
I’m cautiously optimistic about The Mandalorian, so we’ll see!

I hope you enjoy The Broke Eye as much as I did! 😀

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Right? I’m not surprised that Starsight is.. well.. in your sights hahah I look forward to finding out through you if it’s as good as it should be. 😉 And yes! I hope The Mandalorian exceeds everyone’s expectations. It needs to. And thanks! Cautiously reaching the end of it all.

  9. That batman gif is golden!!!

I can’t believe we’re in November already. I feel like my plan for the year has completely gone astray haha.

I am so excited to read the Starless Sea. It’s undoubtedly been on of my most anticipated books of the year!

I hope His Dark Materials is a hit. I’ve been anticipating this one for a while and I’m excited and.nervous to finally watch it.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Hahahahah right? I couldn’t help share it!

It’s insane how fast every year goes by and I think if we don’t organize our goals throughout the year, we’ll just get caught off guard by the end of it hahaha

I definitely hope Starless Sea meets your expectations, Lois! I’ll probably wait to see what everyone has to say about it before cracking that one open myself.

Absolutely. Especially when the last movie was… well… yeah… Hahahah

  10. Starsight is on my list too!!!! And that trailer about Dark materials makes me want to watch it (and I nearly never watch TV). Handy that you had the subtitles too 🙂 I hope that you’ll be two steps ahead Lashaan and will have much fun!

    1. I am not surprised that Starsight in on your list after that love-filled review you shared with of the first book hahahah

Right? Dark Materials really does look promising! I hope it’ll live up to our expectations.

Happy reading to you, Sophie! 😀

  11. Yeah, who needs sleep… If a fictional character doesn’t, you surely don’t either! 😀
I’m looking forward to Ford vs Ferrari and the Irishman. And I am curious what Ennis cooks up with the new Punisher – is this something like the Red Son (i.e. alternate story with Punisher as a Soviet character, traumatized in Afghanistan?)?

    Liked by 1 person

    1. You definitely get it! 😛
I hope we both love those movies once they’re out. So much potential. I can’t wait!
I don’t think it’s a “Elseworlds” type of story. More like a “whodunnit” where Russians get killed and we wonder if Mr. Castle is next. It might introduce a new menace/new lore, in fact.
